Avatar was nominated for 9 Oscars... wow!
Doubtful that it will win all of them, but still, that's awesome!

Although there might be some curiosity about what I might do.

He should win it and say Neytiri's quote "you are like babies, making noise, don't know what to do".

Bwahahahahaha!  :D ;D :D ;D
Extremely cool if he says it in Na'vi, they would not understand that they was made fun of until they read about it later.

On second thought, now that he IS "King of the World," (and everyone in Hollywood knows it), he should say (mìNa'vi) "I see you, I thank you, I honor you," and walk off stage. Make every self-styled crititc eat some crow (make them see him as a humble and appreciative king), and that way, when A2 comes out they will love him again and this time he WILL win EVERYTHING and he can really give it to them. I want to see him win every award for A2 or A3 and tell Hollywood what a bunch of whiny, pathetic narcissistic miscreants they are. That would be funny (to me).

The biggest problem with being James Cameron is that he MAKES stars (Titanic, T2, Aliens, etc.) He doesn't need Tom Cruise or any other established actor, producer, or writer. The people who are voting for the Oscars can't "get on his good side" and sponge off of his genius. He takes relatively unknowns, or partially knowns (with few exceptions) and makes them shine. So the biggest stars are out of luck--AND--JC's movies eat into their popularity and profits (which I like!)

hmmm... maybe I have had too much sugar this morning.

I just read an article that there is the possibility that Avatar won't win a single Oscar this year, as the people there *might* wait until the series is done.  It said that LOTR was like that, and that Avatar could be a repeat in terms of winning oscars.

The technicals are a shoe in for Avatar. I wouldn't be surprised if it also got best original score. There's a chance JC gets best director, but I think BP will go to hurt locker. So it will win at least 3 or so, but more than likely, no important ones.

They might as well just find out the years that each movie is released, and then the following Oscars awards they give them all of the awards.

I'm reluctant to accept the fact that Hurt Locker is more likely to win BP than Avatar, but I know it's true. I've heard a lot of people making the David vs. Goliath comparison, with HL being David, and Avatar being Goliath. Me personally, I kind of think it's the other way around. Once Oscar week comes around, Avatar will have lost quite a few theaters to AIWL, and the buzz about Avatar was over a while ago. Whereas HL has been generating buzz for a while, and a lot of people are pushing it to win, trying to put it on top. So, I guess i'm just gonna have to wait until March 7th to celevrate the number of Oscars Avatar wins. I predict 4-8. (8 being if we're really lucky, very little chance of us getting all 9.)

Like mentioned before, popularity among the people does not automatically mean an Oscar win. It is not the people who decide, but "critics", and if there's one thing I've learned about critics over the years it's that they look down on popular movies because the stinky, unwashed masses of uneducated like them.

They go for the effete hoidy-toidy movies, or any movie that can be summed up with the following catch-phrases: "a warm, caring human drama" or "a boy who finds unexpected love", or, "a damning indictment of the Administration". Remember 1977, when "Star Wars" got bupkis, and a Woody Allen flick won the Oscar.  :(

Things like "Hurt Locker" are seen as "politically relevant". Anything that questions the wisdom of war is an automatic Oscar "cha-ching". And then you've got "Precious", which has the Oscar Critics Trifecta: inner-city minorities, drug abuse, and incest. "Cha-ching", indeed.  ::) Or, of course, "An Education", which has a mentally challenged inner-city minority, being helped by a good-looking white lady, while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship. "Cha-ching", again.

"Avatar" has a lot of really good stuff in it-- anti-consumerism, anti-imperialism, anti-colonialism, anti-militarism, and pro-environment, but it is up against things that always give Oscar critics tears of joy: anything having to do with race, and a damning indictment of a war.

Trust me, if it were up to me, I'd give Avatar a clean sweep. Not just because I dig it, but because I see it as highly relevant to our times. The consumerism, militarism, and corporatism portrayed is something we need to take a close look at. But as far as the Critics are concerned... ironically enough, if we wanted to see Avatar sweep the Oscars, it would have been better if it had failed in the box office.

Living well will be the best revenge, I think. Years from now, when something like "Hurt Locker" is dated and topical, "Avatar" will still be seen as relevent and having resonance with the viewers.
