Loved this quote from Cameron in an article about it:

"'Avatar' asks us to see that everything is connected, all human beings to each other, and us to the Earth. And if you have to go four and a half light years to another, made-up planet to appreciate this miracle of the world that we have right here, well, you know what, that's the wonder of cinema right there, that's the magic," Cameron said.

..one..of..us.. :D That's so awesome that he spoke Na'vi at the ceremony. Geeks FTW.

Edit: Sadly the video clips that might've had him speaking Na'vi are no longer up .. :(

Meh, I think it's fair. I don't know if you recall, but Up had an amazing score. I'm really glad it got that.

I'm glad Avatar won best picture!! Cameron invented a whole new way of filming for pete's sake!

Haha, I was watching the golden globes while talking online with a couple of others and we were all making commentary and 'shushing' during the speaking parts.

It made the award ceremony six or seven more kinds of awesome.
Avatar is a movie about a guy with blue balls running through the forest chasing tail.

LOL SHUSHING!

I heard something like "Ol nati kameya, ma smukan ('n') ma smuke(y)", with the ('n') being an inadvertent English "and" in short form (instead of the appropriate "sì"). Since he translated it as "I See you, my brother and my sisters", I suppose he was going for "Oel ayngati kameie, ma tsmukan sì ma aytsmuke".

Through lenition, the plural of tsmuke could correctly be smuke (not aytsmuke), so potentially correct as Cameron pronounced it.

But is this a case when lenition should apply?

Anyway, I got it wrong myself - I forgot to include the "my" (it's so easy to confuse it with "ma").
So it should've been: "Oel ayngati kameie, ma oeyä tsmukan sì ma oeyä aytsmuke". :P
(Though it could be argued that rhetorically the English "my" actually serves the same purpose as the Na'vi "ma" and isn't really there to indicate possession.)

It is. The word would be aytsmuké. Ay- causes lenition and consonant initial ts weakens to s.

aytsmuké -> aysmuké/smuké
