I just came back from watching the movie again an noticed that the date on the videolog screen at one point was 08/13/2154. I wonder why they created a 13th month in the future? Thoughts?

Another thing I noticed was that nang is used at the end of a sentence like the Japanese yo, but I was probably just slow to realise that. :p

No in the movie they just did month/day/year. If you pay attention to the video logs u can see the 3 months that past when the bulldozers arrive at the tree of voices.

I see you're from Portugal.

In America the way we record dates is Month/Day/Year, so it would make sense that the American corporation would also use this pattern.
Avatar is a movie about a guy with blue balls running through the forest chasing tail.

Yeah, we Americans like to be tricksy to keep the rest of you on your toes.

But yeah, that would be why the dates would be like that. August 13th, 2154.

Which is a Tuesday, apparently.

remember when he's recording he's at pandora  and pandora is a moon sooo... maybe the rotation of pandora is faster[or the same as earth] but the rotation aroud its sun is slower, and if that's the case then more days/months are needed. we have to look at the hours in each log and see what is the max. and all kinds of detail.
well... since I've tried to stop my interest from waning and it has been impossible here cuz People are discriminate. I'm in no need of the forum to learn na'vi.

I wonder if there something in the book saying how many earth days it takes for a full year at Pandora.

Tirealì'u

That is a petty interesting question, but you know what I wonder about when it comes to Pandora? How long is the Long Night that surely happens frequently, when the planet blocks out the sun for a good chunk of time.

well if pandora is a moon it cannot be dark too many days and I say it bc pandora has a lot [almost everything] bio-luminescent so it needs to "charge" with the sun or have a source of light. Also If it is a moon then the world that it corresponds to needs to rotate too...
*sorry if you dont understand me much, my english is not so good.

Perhaps the 'long' nights are one of the leading reasons in so much bioluminescence?

The night and the moon are needed for you to be able to see the BL.
The microorganism is activaded when it's touched [as shown in the movie] but they need light to be "Dinoflagellate" if not they mutate and the only ones that can produce the BL are them in a red tide.

Tirealì'u

Hrm, if light is needed for BL to work... Then how do the many BL fish deep in the oceans where light does not reach work? I thought that was a chemical reaction.

Kametu

Thats what I thought as well :/

Sylwanin ean Tanhì

they are plankton [little animals] like many fishes in the deep ocean.

Sorry if you can barely see it its the best 1 I found =\

BIOLUMINISCENCIA- Oceanos con luz propia (parte 1)

It is true that to be able to see them it has to be at night [with a full moon] but they need light to live. At least a little.

OK so I just read what I had about Pandora and here's what I found:

http://james-camerons-avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Pandora

Everything is there, from the atmosphere to the day/night time cycle and stills from the movie.

Oh, huh. That is pretty interesting.
