40 minutes is not enough!!!

Can you clarify this also?

I have a collegue whose boyfriend has a friend who worked as an animator on Avatar. And he apparently said it was around 40 minutes.

I believe this has been confirmed from other sources as well so, yes, you can count on A LOT of new footage.

im only going to buy the dvd if it offers 3d , damn 3d is like the best techniques developed in the whole century .
I wanted you to know
I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph
I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

'cause i'm broken,
when i'm lonesome
and i don't feel right
when you're gone away

I have some insider information, and I think you'll all be happy to know that they have about 40 minutes worth of material that didn't make it into the final cut. Prepare for an extended edition á la Lord of the Rings.

:D

I DO hope you're right, but I'm certain I saw an interview with Cameron in which he stated that there was 10-12 minutes of cut out material.

Seconded. That's why they need to make 3D TVs available right now.

Nooo!! We need definitely more. I'm thinking about 1-2 hours.

No one else has noticed this, but there might actually be an alternate beginning. Look in the second trailer, at the beginning there is a small clip of a bar scene with jake. Looking at the 2007 script PDF, there is that exact same scene. So I think that an alternate beginning will be on the DVD.

I was wondering how many different parts that were in the 2007 script were filmed and then cut out. Like maybe the drunk Na'vi scene, the relationship between Norm and Trudy, the explanation about why the school closed down and why the Na'vi hate the humans so much...

Why they left out the drunk scene might be because the film was supposed for young and old audiences and with that scene it might have got rated higher and younger people couldn't watch it which means less profit , the relationship between norm and trudy ? not as important enough to fit it into the movie and I don't think that anyone would have cared that much about it .

And I guess the school was closed down because the relationship between the Na'vi and the human invaders compounded , the Na'Vi probably realized what the humans wanted and just shut down the contact with them .

And I mean , you can't consider someone a friend who is about to exploit your home and your people .

Well, All I hope is that they bring out two versions. One normal DVD version, and an extended (and maybe alternate) version with a second disc including the originil cinema movie. And on blu-ray it'll probably fit all on to one disc including the 3D version.
This is actually the first movie I'm planning on buying after seeing in the cinema.

I'm not questioning why they left the drunk scene out, just wondering if it was ever filmed and if it'll be included in the DVD. Just like they didn't include the lovemaking scene, but it'll supposedly be included.

If you read the 2007 script there was a big backstory explaining Neytiri's sister and everything that went down at the school, so I'm wondering if they included that too and then had to chop it from the movie for time/relevance issues.

And I would have cared about Norm and Trudy's relationship, they would have been a cute couple :'(

Random off-topic thought: how funny would it have been to act the love-making scene in the wetsuits with the body-motion helmets and face cameras.

Zoe Saldana had an interview (posted on io9, don't have a link right now) about the lovemaking scene. She said she laughed a lot because she and Sam weren't allowed to move "certain" ways.

Oooh, yes, link please! I don't think I've seen that (unless it was on one of the non-serious interviews, I kinda skipped around on those.)

It was a very funny scene to shoot because there were so many technical things that sometimes you have to keep in mind that paying attention to all those might disrupt the fluidity of how a scene is supposed to take place."

Couldn't find the interview you were looking for.

I couldn't find it either... so sad.
