So I was perusing around hoping to discover when the Avatar DVD is going to be released, and I found one sketchy looking site reporting we'd probably have it in May http://videoeta.com/movie/90753

The average time it takes apparently is three months and twenty-five days, which would be closer to April, but I'm assuming it'll take a bit longer due to the popularity.

When you y'all think we'll get it? And how much longer do you think it's going to run in theaters?
Avatar is a movie about a guy with blue balls running through the forest chasing tail.

End of April, and it'll run up to around spring break.

I hope it doesn't end up like Star Trek, that took like 6 months.

Mines in mid-March. And the new trek was surpisingly good. And we're off topic again.

I think the DVD might release early based on popularity alone. I went and saw avatar again a few hours ago, and I had trouble finding seats. Seems pretty popular.

Guys remember when DVDs took a year! Getting so dependent on fast, we forget that good sometimes takes time! A turn around of 3 months is insane and sometimes unnecessary if they make the DVD right. People will wait.

I'm prepared to wait however long it takes to get a good cut done for the DVD, it will be worth the wait methinks!

I agree with that, when it's quality, i'd much rather have some patience and fork over a little extra green than get a bootleg and miss out.
It's quite a large universe, who could say what's out there?

A year?  I remember when we were LUCKY to get a VHS released years down the road...  Sometimes movies it took a decade or more before hey came out on home video.

A year? HAH!

But these days...  This spring/summer doesn't seem that far off of a guess.

I've read that they just defined a new standard for 3D Movies on Blu Ray. So it might well take half a year or more until the first players are available for public.

The question is if Avatar will be release as 2D and 3D at the same time :)

Talaan

Yeah, may seems realistic...Nowadays also the good movies take only some month (max half a year) to be released on DVD..But i dont really look forward this DVD...it wont be same like in the cinema without these fantastic 3D-effects....

meruko

Damn you made me curious!  I just checked Amazon.de and both DVD and Blu Ray are listed with December 2010.

I have heard that the DVD/Bluray release will be in summer, and that theyre releasing a Bluray 3D version late 2010, that support new 3D Bluray players coming this year.

I certanly hope for may instead, I'm gonna buy the special edition on Bluray as soon as it's available!

I usually cant see a movie nowadays because I am broke and cannot afford to buy much of anything. If I could, I would have seen Avatar a lot more than just the 2 times I have. But, I have vowed to myself that I will not pirate Avatar and to just wait till the release of the movie on to Blue-Ray.

I will happily wait as long as it takes since, the longer it takes, the more special features we get.

Hawnuyu atìtse'a

If the DVD box included special features, directors cut, 2d edition, and 3d edition, would anyone besides me pay for it? Might take longer to release but I'd pay for the bonuses.

Yes, I would. My plan is to buy whatever come out first and if there is two versions to buy the "special edition". Then if/when they come out with a collectors version or something I will give my current copy to a friend and go out and get that one.

Off topic, but since when were you a mod? I thought I knew all of them..

I'm holding out for the director's cut extended version! I really want to sit through the five hour version.
