It's more of a matter of going there, since we're still finding new moons around jupiter you can imagine how hard it is to try and find moons from light years away. One can only hope they can send the first mission there in our lifetime.

Things like NASA's Constellation program, the VASIMR project, ESA's Herschel telescope and other programs are in the real world right now, working to create the possibility of interplanetary and hopefully, interstellar access. If humans are to ever realize visions like Pandora, we have to create the technology to make it happen. Find a way to help support that! Campaign to your government(s) to fund space exploration as much as possible!

Stop giving me hope that there is a Pandora-ish planet!
Because by the time we can go there I will be long dead :(

You are just going to have to find a cure for death.

You're right! Simple as that, I'm starting to find one right now :D

Who knows, maybe science does the "ghost in the shell" method and we can move our brains to mechanical bodies in the future.

All we need is to discover a way to create massive amounts of superconducting material and salt Earth with it. Create our own Eywa!  :P

Well if you consider someones "soul" or being to be that of just consciousness, then it is very possible in the future. Consider that consciousness is only the ability to react to outer stimuli and learn and adapt from it. Hence the whole AI, "I, Robot" and Terminator plots. When machines themselves are given the ability to learn beyond their supposed three laws, they are able to develop their own ideas, patterns, in AI's case likes or dislikes.

Biologically, the mind works just like they mentioned in the movie, neurons that are united via electrochemical connections. So if the future is able to bring technologies that captures those signals and map them, you could essentially create a copy of the brain and put it into whatever it is you want.

BUT!!! This is gray area. Many people also consider the essence of ones mind to be interconnected with the spirit or an outer force. So as much as technology might try to replicate it, it will "never" be able to capture the full picture of what it means to be human.

I believe it is possible! I've already run through my head the possibilities, give me a PhD and billions on research and I'll map out the brain in no time! Most likely just make a super expensive hot air popper for popcorn.

As for a planet that might be like Pandora, it's always possible and maybe within our reach. All depends on where we take technology. We can either make it to help us or we can make it to kill us. I personally want to make technology speed us off into the universe at warp factor HOLY CRAP!!

MOUNTAINBANSHEE

give me about 4 billon dollars, 52 nasa engineers, a ton of metal and posably 10 to 20 years and i would be able to create a interworldly veicale BUT no gareltys! the veicale could be about to traval about 0.7 light speed altought that would be the top speed. I would also need the money to perfect crogenites! but that has as good a change as the world agreing on a way to stop climate change!!

Im a bit of a fan of the solar sail technology idea. Also, we need Cryogenics to advance quite a bit. However, the idea of a massive Generation Ship using hydroponics and fusion energy provide for some interesting ideas. Now we just need a way to extract water for a perpetual energy type system... Ahhh the good old perpetual energy idea...

Where do I sign up for the mission ???  ;D I'll be chief of security.

Easy. Just need a big helium-3 fusion reactor driving a couple of VASIMR engines and a static ramscoop on the front to gather reaction mass.

Make it so, Number One!

I somehow have a feeling that in that reaction, somewhere you have H2O being created as a byproduct to solve the water issue and provide a constant source of fresh oxygen to compliment the scrubbers. Why aren't we doing this? Really

Zalorticus

Well, it is doubtless that there is a moon like Pandora. All we need is to find it. Do you know how many planets there are, just in our universe? I mean, there are other universes, which makes it a multiverse, and then other dimensions.../ramble

No oxygen in the VASIMR. Just plasma being accelerated by superconducting magnets.

Gotta bring your water with you on the trip, I guess  ;)

Hmmmm. Designing and building a self contained generation ship would be quite difficult without water and fresh oxygen being a byproduct of some other functional reaction.
