I think thats 1.1 billion... not 11.

Okay, that makes more sense. Though it would still require Avatar's daily gross to spontaneously increase:

I really need to stop posting from my phone it was US $1.1 billion that was an embarrassing typo.

yea, there's kind of a GIANT difference between 1.1 billion and 11 billion.  anyone of you ever tried counting to a billion?  well I have, It took me the entire day, and half a day.  people thought I was crazy.  to count to 11 bil would be like trying to destroy hometree with a machine gun.

I'm curious how you did this in a day and a half?  There are 129,600 seconds in a day and a half.  That would mean you'd need to account for about 7700 numbers per second to count to one billion in that time.

I may have skipped a couple hundred thousands  ;D  and maybe a couple millions.   but my point is that its like a HUGE difference.

1 billion divided by 129,600 = 7,716 days. 7716 days divided by 365.25 = 21.25 years. That's how long it would take you to count to 1 billion if you ticked off one number per second 24 hours a day.

As for a re-release, I'm game. Though i'm not sure to be truthful. With the DVD's out, people may question wanting to pay to see Avatar when all they can do is pop in a DVD. The Imax 3D or Real 3D experience may be worth it still. I would probably still go, but not nearly as often as I do now.

Own all the stargate seasons, in the old original DVD sets and the new slim-pack sets. Plus the movies. I even have the old Season 8 (i think) disc with the incorrect version of the episode "Threads." It was supposed to be the longer, special edition of the episode on the disc, but a production error caused the shorter version to be placed on the disc. A rebate program allowed buyers to get a replacement disc with the correct version of Thjreads. So i have two disc 5's for season 8.

As for Avatar, i've pre-ordered the bare bones edition, and i also plan on getting the upcoming extended editions later in the year.

hmmmm, I think we have gone slightly off thread here, I'll make a Stargate thread under movies, sound good?

Yeah sounds good but make it so that we can compare Avatar to Stargate, not a thread to talk about just Stargate (their are plenty of those on the interwebs).

The mom-n-pop theater has Avatar until around June. The mall movie theater is supposed to rotate avatar out toward the end of month.

Yeah the reason most theaters removed it was ti make room for movies like Alice In Wonderland and Clash Of The Titans. Theaters that think they will make mor money off of avatar tan those movies or will make more money by being one of the few theaters that still has Avatar in it would if course knave Avatar in their theater. It is estimated Avatar would have made $8 billion total world wide sales if it had stayed in major US theaters longer. We will never know now.

It's estimated that US theaters alone would have made Avatar over 5 billion dollars in 40 days???  ::)

Avatar is still playing in a handful of locations still. But on April 5th, the vast majority of 3D screens went to Alice in Wonderland. If you base the numbers off the initial runs around when they pulled Avatar (say the end of march, beginning of April) the numbers could very well support say a 5-7 billion worldwide gross. These days, as interest is waning, and DVD releases are around the corner, theater grosses are probably going to level off and then drop. With the current outlook, i would be happy if Avatar hits $3 billion worldwide gross. Rumored re-releases i'm not sure of how well they will do. Or even if they will occur. My theater manager isn't quite sure if they will be getting Avatar again. Their show schedule doesn't have Avatar listedanywhere during the later half of the year. But the schedule can and sometimes will change, so he said it's still a possibility. He said there's still a chance Avatar could make a second run at his theater later in the year.

No, sorry, they're not even close. In my above post I did run the numbers. I even gave Avatar a bunch of benefits such as discounting money earned domestically since the 5th and using an average daily gross from its entire run up until the 5th instead of just the period around when they pulled Avatar. Domestic screens simply didn't contribute that much to the total gross.

I'm pretty sure even missing worldwide sales couldn't produce that much . . .

Yeah, average daily sales would have had to spontaneously increase by about 1.6 times in order for Avatar to have made 5 billion dollars by now. Again, this is after giving Avatar every possible advantage.

Well since my math is just good enough to pass, I will trust although my info (provided by hollowywood analysts) projected at least $7.2 billion world wide by summer had Avatar remained in all major theaters. We will never know for sure. But who really cares aboutbhow much money it made (James) the movie was amaizing, let's not forget to look at why Jim made the movie, to not just make money and tell a story, it was to share a message, a message to let us all see what we are doing here on Earth. The movie was for the good of all of us. James is currently spending his money and his time in the Amazin rainforest, trying to help the Natives of the Xingu river keep their land. The Brazilian government wants to build the world 3rd largest damn which would flood 100 sq. Miles of the rain forest and dry up 60 miles of the Xingu river. A river which many natives rely on for survival. Check it out. ( I will post a link in a minute I have to look it up.). And sorry for being off topic I switched to writer mode.

Speaking of extended Avatar rumors, did you guys read this?

http://www.movieline.com/2010/04/is-avatar-home-the-half-sequel-thatll-change-blockbusters-forever.php

I'm not sure on how to respond to this, mainly this particular paragraph.
Quote"But the changes to Avatar: Home are also meant at ensuring the sequel is as anticipated as any film could be. Cameron explained: "The other major thing is that we spend about 12 minutes going 10 years into the future, so we see how Jake adjusts to life on Pandora - how he copes with being one of the few of his species, the problems he and Neytiri have conceiving a hybrid-hybrid baby and the ongoing role Dr. Grace Augustine's spirit has in guiding the planet. She's like Obi-Wan, I guess, though she'll be dressed better! Basically, it takes us up to the point where we begin Avatar 2, with Jake unable to hide that he wants off Pandora, that he needs to get back into his old skin and into the fray. So, the re-release constitutes and essential bridge between the two films."

:o Guys, I don't know what to think! I'm riping my hair out over here! Are there really talks of a sequel already? And if so, can you imagine what's going to happen? If Jake misses being a human so much, and wants to go back, won't that break Neytiri's heart?  It's like this never ending pattern, that you will always go back to who you were once the novelty of being someone else wears off. *cries* I don't want to think about Jake and Neytiri separating ><;;
