I've seen it three times, and my opinion hasn't changed. My favorite scene is still Jake's speech to the Omaticaya before they go get the other clans. The power of the acting and the believability of the characters just hits home there, and every time I have seen it it sends shivers all over my body. The whole movie is a pure joy to watch, but that part in particular just stands out for me.

Oh, and Jake's face when he tells Grace he dissected a frog once. I can't help but giggle every time. :3

The dissecting a frog scene reminds me of when he first gets in the link chamber (no idea what the real name is) and as Grace is closing the lid on it, it sounds like Jake is about to cuss Grace out.  I thought I heard something along the lines of "kiss the dorkus part of my..."

I had a similar experience to the movie.  I feel extremely lucky in that I somehow missed all the advertising and hype for the movie until the day before it came out.  The only preconceived notions I had for the film was from part of a trailer I saw.  Needless to say, it blew my mind.  I also didn't realize that the movie was motion capture.  Until I found that out, I really thought the actors were playing the parts with prosthetics and makeup on, and that speaks volumes to how good cgi is getting these days that it can create outstanding photorealistic frames.

I've seen the movie 3 times in theaters, and while it still impresses me each time, its just not the same mind blowing experience I had during the first viewing...

That's the same as me, I never new it existed until a friend showed me the trailer. I thought he was talking about an anime series! I watched the trailer, I did not know it was in 3d, so saw it in a 2d theater a day after it was out, two days later I went to see it at IMAX 3D, bought 7 people along who had not seen it. I did not think about Special Effects at all, I usually do like in 2012 I would be thinking "how have they done this" whereas in Avatar, it felt like I was actually on Pandora, this happened during both viewings. 3d made it better though. I've ordered all the books as an xmas present. After two viewings I can almost recite it word for word, before I sleep (lol), but hey I suppose I might get lucky and dream about it :) I got an 8h drive tomorrow, going to see some relatives, i'm printing as much stuff on the language as possible so I can learn while my parents drive... getting a bit off topic now so see ya!

One of my friends was describing this as the first movie he saw where the 3D was used as a natural part of the cinematography, rather than a gimmick like you see in amusement park rides ("oh no, this object is flying towards your face, look out!").  Alas, I've only seen the 2D version so far so I can't confirm that first-hand.  That's not enough Ds!

This is why I HATED 3D movies.  Then Mr. Cameron comes along and raises the bar.  A movie maker is responsible for EVERY aspect within the film.  A lot of people forget that rule and it irritates the crap outta me.

I've seen it in both 2D and 3D, but not IMAX 3D.  The 3D is pretty slick, and it works pretty well, however it gets kinda jumpy in really fast paced scenes.  Overall, it is worth seeing in 3D if its available...

I know this is mean, but I love the fact that Sam Worthington can't maintain his accent (same in terminator:salvation)
He's an aussie, and sometimes, it really...well...shows. I don't mind  ;D

Oh I am SO glad I'm not the only one who noticed that!!! It made me giggle everytime he dropped out of 'American'. I like to explain it in my head that maybe on Earth everyone has kind of a blended aussie/english accent in 2154. :P

also, in his opening monologue, he slips quite a lot.

My favorite part was from the first second till the start of the credits, aka the whole movie. I kind of went into a trance for the entire movie and couldn't stop thinking about it afterward, that's why I'm on these forums now  ;) Going for a third viewing soon. The whole movie was EPIC!!!

EXACTLY! But still, there are some scenes that sticks out. but yes I was like " 'woah' -this is my new obsession." ;p Although, after reading all the posts, the part when Jake made the speech to the Omaticaya Clan is strong, the whole process of Jake's change of heart and learning to be Na'Vi cannot be described by words (I even paused and clear some words I wrote when I'm writing this), plus, the kissing scene is meaningful-not just "hey let's kiss", but meaningful. I also like the first flight, blah blah, when Jake and Grace first met in Avatar form, when Neytiri saved Jake from the poisonous gas (near the end), blah blah, and it was really touching when Mo'at said "If you are really one of us, help us." and also when the home tree got destroyed; they all cry and wept. It's like they are not selfish and if they have to move, they're doing it together, helping one another, not just one self. THAT"S just SOME of my OPINIONS. (sorry for the caps.) :) ahh! so hyper bout this.  ;)

Yeah, but nonetheless, he did a good job in the movie.  And besides, I think they at least found an American accent that would "work," the whole Brooklyn accent and everything.

There are so many parts about this movie I loved, but one that hasn't been mentioned yet is when he captured the toruk and flew into the camp. Suddenly he changes from an outcast into the coolest thing they'd ever seen. XD

Tirealì'u

They totally should have just made his character an Australian who immigrated to the US or something, just to let him keep the epic accent. :-P

If I'd have to choose favorites, I think I'd have to go for two main ones.

I'd have to choose the war. The speech, the assembling, the preparations, the charges, the fights. And all that was linked to it. So flow, so smooth. It was awesome. :)

And I'd have to choose the whole part where Jake is in learning with Neytiri. How he explains what he learns and how you see their relationship develop through that learning. It's very easy to access by your own mind, when it's not just "*FLASH* he learns everything in 3 months!" connects you deeper with the characters.

But oHO, what's that?! I'm making another thread, because I've something to distinguish. Come check it out, hope you find it ;)

My favorite part...the whole thing. I can't exactly choose a favorite part, it would be these two:

1. When Jake first gets in his Avatar. I can't believe they didn't see that coming.

2. When Jake is learning with Neytiri. "Neytiri, you will teach him our ways." "Really? That's not fair!"

Her body language and exclamation of disgust at being assigned the task was great and particularly poignant for me :D

Yeah... that was the classic mom/daughter argument. It made Mo'at for me, really. My mom and I saw the movie together for the first time, and we both giggled at it. We have exchanges like that all the time.

oh and I also like Trudy's scenes! she's amazing. one of the key scenes is when she saved Dr. Grace, Norm, and Jake, together with Max. sadly, it's pretty short :/
