HRH!  I better start selling my organs, and robbing banks...    Maybe I'll just be sent there for research, I have military training, and I dissected a frog, shark, squid, cat, pig, ugh... Much more...

Reminds me of a virus that slowly changes you into a Na'vi  8)

I'm using the idea in a story, the fact that Pandoran Biology contains much more information then their terran counterparts

I know. After seeing Avatar for the first time, I almost sat in the chair, numb and feeling sad that this magnificent world had been taken away from me. It really thundered through me for a few days. Saw it again 3 days later, same thing happened.
Seen it for the 21st last weekend, and what do you guess? Same thing.

In the meantime, my devil's advocate side has said: Live on Pandora. You have no internet, no car, no electronic gadgets. Would you like that?
My self replied: Can I have it yesterday?

Naturally, same feeling here....although I have felt it with other books/movies. But never to the extent of how I felt when I saw Avatar in theaters (for me, the feeling happens to a lesser extent seeing it on DVD). Always after watching the movie I would get that extreme sense of longing for something I know I can never have, sometimes making me feel like crying with frustration....needless to say I go barefoot more often now and am trying to learn archery  :D

'Ì'awn Menari

i have that feeling.  i get sucked into really good movies, books, games etc.  that when they end it's like i'm pushed back out of their world and back to this one...and i feel disappointed, and idk why but a little homesick...it's weird...anywho...sometimes i also feel like a part of me goes missing...(at least until i read, watch, or play it again) XD

Very cool! Archery is fascinating, did it myself for a while long ago, and since Avatar I have the urge to pick it up again. Someone know where I can get days with more hours? ??? :D

Mllte, medieaval weapons are more 'honest' than modern ones. Any idiot can shoot a gun. Using bow and arrow, you have to know something to make it work.

This morning I miss Pandora a bit more than usual. I had a blue dream last night...

Well, anyone can pull a trigger, but there are rifle marksmanship competitions, just like for archery, for a reason.

Yes, there is a difference. Also for marksmanship you have to know something.

There is something about 'old' weapons, though. These are more geared to opposing someone equal. You don't go against palulukan with just a knife unless you have a deathwish. ;)

Exactly. I love learning how to shoot an arrow, but I have zero interest in shooting a gun. Feels way more 'honest' as you said, and has a feeling of old realness. Besides the arrows are reusable while bullets are not!

True, although you should see the bows they use now for a lot of archery competitions. Unless there's a restriction against it, people will use carbon fiber frames, synthetic polymer strings, and all sorts of extra devices like gyroscopes and stabilizers to increase accuracy and power. Things barely look like bows anymore.

That's not to say I don't understand what you're talking about. I'm just not like that, personally :P

Personally, I think medieval European weapons are a bit over-romanticized... In reality they tended to be far more brutal, less graceful their their middle or far eastern counterparts, for the simple reason that Europe was the only place where heavy armor really evolved to the point where the weapons had to co-evolve. The result was that combat ended up being a ridiculously messy affair. I don't think there's anything really personal about massed longbow fire... :/

There is however something satisfying in shooting an arrow and making it hit a target. It all comes down to your own strength, stability and being calm (re Zen Buddhist longbow shooting).

I've been in the (drafted) military and once shot a gun. It was not the same. To each their own.

I abhore violence, but being part of the whole, of Eywa, I see the need to shoot a fellow living creature in order to survive. For that we have taronyu. Hunter. It is a way of life that makes things simple, compared to what we have now.

Oh, certainly, it is simple for us to go into a shop and buy the food we need. But considering the stress that goes around and about us in order to get to the money to buy this food... Yes.  I miss something.

I learned the Bow & arrow thing at a young age, but I have a compound bow in my closet.  I haven't picked it up in a good three months.  Blah,  practice makes perfect.  I might be a little rusty though, but it seems to come natural to me.  As for a Knife, or Sword,  I would rather use my Kabar Fighting/Utility Knife.
