Sadly Avatar isn't released in the UK until the 26th but I've just preordered my Blu-ray + DVD 2 pack from Amazon <3

I got Avatar in Region with the Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack and the code was still inside of the case.  I think there might be just laws that are not allowing it to be in Poland.

Oh, is this just for the Avatar programme?

Good, I was worried there that they had some sort of extra Blu-ray encryption :P

Right now it's just for a few cheesy online things, most of which are pretty pointless or available elsewhere already anyway.

Thanks than you relieved my pain a little. Still i think thats unfair. There are never problems with free trailers are there? Or with some interviews. So there is really no problem in law. This is just good explanation for companies. Well i hope that extended version wont have anything US/other country  exclusive, because it is very nice to be able to buy it in the shop in city center where you can get  in 15 minutes walking. I am sorry i reloaded my frustration here. I am still happy I do have Avatar itself.

One last thing if the content would be legal only for US than why can you buy Original edition, get it shipped to Poland and and register (there is Poland on the list as well as many other countries) I content was country sensitive you should not be able to register as Pole.

But whatever lets finish this topic and get back to original one:

I got my Avatar DVD to! And i m planning to buy original Blue-Ray when extended edition. I would only have to buy BR player, but what wont you do for Avatar?

From what i've gathered from internet sources:

The code provided in the bare bones edition is to access extras found on the website. It's valid for region 1 (US/Canada). Blu-ray editions don't have a code because they already contain the extras.

From various internet sources, so some or all may or may not be entirely true. Acting as a messenger here, not a teller. So some of what i just said may or may not apply or apply to you specifically depending on what edition of Avatar you get. If you're outside region 1, then you're generally SOL, because i haven't heard of anything being offered outside Region 1 from the internet sources i went to.

Blu-ray editions do have the code in them, since there are 0 extra features in the Blu-ray edition.  Well, there is one extra feature, which is a copy of the movie on DVD.  You get both Blu-Ray and DVD versions when you buy the Blu-ray edition.

Well you gotta remember that Fox just made a killing on Avatar. And now they're gonna try and keep making as much as they possibly can. Hence one reason they probably have the "bare-bones" edition. The upcoming extended editions will tempt those who bought the bare bones editions to buy another copy of the movie. So yeah, extra features aside, (regardless of functionality or availability to various regions or DVD editions) you know that in the end, it's all about Fox making more green.

As for the special features code, has anyone already tried it and gotten it to work? What's available with the code?

Right now it's just two things.

You can signup for the Earth Day adopt a tree thing which gives you your own little tree homepage type deal, and download an Avatar interactive desktop for Adobe Air.  It's got some images, videos, news feed, and some other functionality.

I had it before but I've reinstalled the latest version of my distro recently (didn't feel like upgrading this time, I wanted a fresh start), and I haven't needed it until now... I like how much easier installation has become.

I've already done earth day stuff (planted 10 trees, and the neighborhood did a little clean-up project where we all cleaned up our street. We also distributed curbside recycle bins to anyone who didn't have one yet).

The interactive desktop sounds fun.

@SirHaxalot: You can resist the urge. The "Making of" sub forum contains a lot of extras and behind the scenes features. Watch those, they're great.

Well, minding that I haven't started yet, and if I start now it probably wont finish until Sunday night , it wont be that hard really. I'll expect to get the BD early next week. :)

Well, I finally got to watch it on a tv in my dorm.

It was preety epic... we had the blu-ray that i brought, my roommates 6.1 giant surround sound system (really, the speakers are huge.), a guy down the hall's ps3 so we can watch the bluray, and a different guy's 37inch screen. we had at least 12 people in my room watching this thing, literally packed house... (those dorms are small!)

twas sweet.

Technowraith

@pbhead: nice. Community effort = win.

5pm tonight marks the first DVd marathon of Avatar. I'm at a friend's house tonight. We have a projector already. And We're bringing a 6.1 surround sound system, drinks and snacks for Avatar night. Down in the basement is a 12 foot wide by 6 foot  high section of white wall we're gonna use as a screen. I just got the projector set up and focused. Now just waiting for the sound system and everyone else to arrive. ^.^

I was a bit disappointed that this release is totally without any extras. Though they didn't have any space left on the Blu-ray disk anyway. And it is already a 50GB BD. So for the expanded and for sure for the 3D version they have to split it on two or even more disks.

BTW: since the Blu-ray release contains also the DVD and the price difference is just measly $4 (Amazon.com) I see no point in buying the DVD only release even if you don't have a BD player and HDTV (yet).

Not exactly true, Blu-ray disks have been developed up to 500GB in size, long gone are the days of swapping out disks ;)
