In the Extended Collector's Edition, you get to see more of Earth of the potential future. If you notice, there are a lot people wearing breathing masks, and that the city looks dirty and dank. Could this be the future our Earth?

Possibly.

What do you think?

With the way things r going now I can see this becoming true.... (I hope we find a way 2 get 2 the real Pandora soon)

Tanhì-ean

I agree. I hope we can change our way of thinking on how to build cities that would actually go along with nature. Although, with the people with money and are greedy probably won't let that happen, since they are benefiting with the way things are.

We are getting closer to finding planets that are about the size of Earth.

masks are already wearing in China as i know...
and this will happen for sure unless people don't become smart and stop ruining our beautiful planet

Dreams die first because people give them up so easily...

I don't know about China, but in Japan, at least, the face masks are more of a cultural thing - people with colds wear them to prevent said colds spreading.

About wearing masks in China - it's true. Unfortunately the smog is usual thing in great Chinese sities. :(

This is kind of off-topic, but I've watched that scene multiple times (of course) and was wondering about that lady with the mask and shining eye. It's when the street turns green to signal "walk", and you can see her and her bright white eye-thingy. :P

I dunno, just wondered what it was. :D I'd take a screenshot but I don't know how to on my Mac. :P

I know that there are countries that people wear breathing masks. It's probably worse in China. A known fact is that China is bringing on one coal power plant a week.

I noticed that too. I have no clue as to what that could be. Maybe like an artificial eye or something is done to the eye to maybe give a ability, like a mini-computer. If look at the other people in the scene there are quite a few people something covering their right eye. I'll see if I can get a screenshot of the lady.

There's already places like Earth-2154. China, Mexico City, and Karabash, Russia. At the current rate, we'll be seeing more places like this as time goes on.

I'm hoping faysawtute will turn things around so it doesn't end up like this. as it is now, I'd go to Pandora in half a second, as long as the humans don't pull the same sh*t they do in the movie  :D

Mongkok on the Kowloon peninsula, Hong Kong. It has the highest population density in the world. When I went shopping there at night parts of it looked almost exactly like that.

This may possibly even happen in small cities like the one I live in.  If this will be our future, then I will be glad to be someplace else.

Here's another though for Earth in 2148/2149: the global population.

It looked quite SCARY!  It's like a crowded Tokyo every corner!  I would estimate the population to be somewhere in the tens of billions, maybe even over 100,000,000,000!!

Also, did anyone come to think that this may be a part of the reason of why Jake's city apartment is so small like it is?

Finally, I could nonetheless be grateful for all the technology going holographic, especially if it's power-saving :)

Yeah that's scary. I actually watched something on the Discovery channel here in the U.S. about the population doubling. The way they presented the facts from how fast the population grew, and made a simulation of the future and it's like what it looks like in 2148/2149. I wouldn't be able to live where there are so many people around. I would need my personal space, like maybe go to a space colony, mars, or the moon.

The only way they can get enough space is to limit certain amount of square footage per person, and that they have to start building up, since they wouldn't be able to expand outward.

From what it sounds like, it seems planet Earth become one big city. I guess. Can you say Star Wars? hrh

Humanity does not deserve to go to other planets, let alone colonize them.  The Humans have phucqued up their home planet, and will do the same again.

Mllte ma smuk. I also fear that future for our great mother Gaia, so I have created a team to start working on a solution for this issue. Ma smuk I will need your help in the coming months, so please keep watching and I will inform everyone by next week how we can work together to help protect Earth that from that grim fate.
Plus I would love to go to the real Pandora. ;D ;D

I think it's not to late to change to save Earth from ourselves. There are many things that I could do to help with that when I become an architect.

This could be true, but I believe like I said above, that we can change to become better to save Earth. I think we do have the right to go out and colonize other planets, but with rules on where we can colonize. Take Mars, we can colonize it, terraform it(possibly), but also see if there are already microorganisms. If there are, then we shouldn't bring any kind of Earth-based organisms to Mars or any other planet for that matter.

The human race needs to have a reformation to save ourselves and the planet from the possible future that the road we are taking right now is leading to.

James Cameron believes otherwise.

The Humans will still not have learned their lesson.  If anything, it will only encourage them to continue on their current path, continuing to breed like tribbles and take whatever they can grab to sate their endless, boundless greed.  If the destiny of the Human race is to maraud through the universe taking and ruining planet after planet, then I want no part of it.
