My theory on the floating rocks

I'd first like to say that i'm not any kind of scientist, but i feel this makes a little bit of sense.

I believe that at the core of all the floating "islands" there is a large bubble of some kind of "super helium", if you want to call it that. It might be a mixture of helium, hydrogen, and have you (i'll explain why i think the hydrogen is there later). This "super helium" would need to be replenished on certain "islands" (like the ones with waterfalls) and i think this could be done by, maybe a plant that has roots that give off this gas.

Now, about the waterfalls and the hydrogen. I think when the "surer helium" escapes from the "island"s core, the hydrogen reacts with oxygen and something else in the air/"super helium" and creates water.

After having to sit here and type that it makes way less sense to me than it did before, but w/e.

Rainwater probably. Might have a depression/porous rock/soil on the top which soaks up the water when it rains.

The unobtainium in the rocks act as a superconductor (at room temperature!), allowing it to float in the powerfull magnetic fields on Pandora.

The Activist Survival Guide gives a detailed explanation for the floating mountains. It has to do with unobtanium and how it cooled within the rocks during their formation. If you have the ASG, i would suggest reading it. It's chock full of awesome info about Avatar and Pandora.

It also says that the humans tried to mine it from the mountains for a while, but by fooling with the rock, the mountains moved and pretty much hit the mining equipment, thereby destroying it.  They stopped.
