Was Neytiri in Grace's school? I believe i saw her in one of the pictures on the fridge at the site at the floating mountains of Pandora. In the movie Neytiri seems to care about Grace as well.

shiaru

That would explain some things... Grace could certainly had been her teacher, but i cant remember I wish the DVD's were out.

Ya i wish the dvd was out too, but it would prob be out like in summer or something.

Hufwe Makto

yeah Neytiri was in the bottom picture on the hallelujah medical cabinet with Grace and a bunch of more juvenile looking Na'vi

Txantslusama tsamsiyu

Are u sure it is a medical cabinet? It looks like food is stored there. Trudy grabbed something in there and says this stuff is disgusting.

Hufwe Makto

when was the last time u took medicine? it IS disgusting! but yeah I'm pretty sure it was meds in there. it looked like pill containers...

I thought it was food... I can't remember for sure, but I think there was a sign on the door--a sign that was right by the pictures. It said something like "Food Only". It made me think of where I work--we have 2 mini fridges, 1 for medicines (work at a pharmacy) and another for snacks; we have a sign on the food one that says "food only". Anyway, that's why that stuck out to me. I could be mistaken, of course. And I suppose it's kind of a moot point anyway :)

But yes, I think she was in Grace's school. My question is: how long ago? I'd love to know the time-frame (maybe it's in the book, but I haven't read through all of it). It has to have been a while because: Neytiri seemed to resent the humans (which we know from her first encounter with Jake) and we knew from Parker (and implications from others) that the human's schools have failed. And right about now my concentration is going all wonky and I lost my train of thought, but... That (the timeframe mentioned above) was one of the lingering questions I had after both times watching the movie.

I don't think it was that long before the movie started. There's not much 1-on-1 interaction between Grace and Neytiri (but judging by the the fact that they took her body with them when hometree burned, as well as the fact that she seem's upset when she hear's that Grace is dying seems to suggest that they consider her "better" then the other humans, if only by a little amount.

She doesn't seem that young in the pictures. Neytiri looks like the oldest out of all the ones in the picture other than Grace. Maybe few years or so?

yeah, id say the same

but what i'd also like to know is how long the humans have been on pandora? im guessing quite a while, because of all the machinery and stuff on Pandora
"Guys, come on. Whats wrong with this picture? Wheres my cigerette?"

Tanhì Tireafya'o

Well, since they've been 'asleep' for almost 6 years when they reach Pandora, and Jake Sully knew about going there before his trip. It would be at least 6 years.

I think they were there a lot longer, but I can't proof it right now.

What I saw was that the humans schools lost popularity because the RDA security goons were "machine-gunning the natives". It seemed to me to be a relatively recent event. A lot of the young Na'vi kids all seemed to remember Grace and reacted well to her, but the village elders closed the schools either because they associated all the humans together, or, they closed the schools to show displeasure and "punish/sanction" the humans efforts in the area. Maybe a bit of both.

But what seemed to be most telling to me was that the adults allowed Grace pretty much unrestricted access among the kids; she was able to talk freely with the kids and while they were always in sight of the adult members of the tribe they didn't have someone hanging over her shoulder. The tribe also made the effort to drag Grace's Avatar body to safety after Hometree was destroyed, and they tried to transfer her consciousness to her Avatar body. That says a lot.

I think he was referring to after the discovery of Pandora, it was a place everyone wanted to go because of how beautiful it was or Unobtanium. Since earth was void of plant life and all.

Pandora was discovered in 2129 so it has been known to humans for 25 years. So for most of his life Jake had heard stories about the planet, hence the expression.

I'm honestly more curious about who ended the school, the humans or the tribe? I mean, did the RDA simply cut funding and order her to stop because it wasn't helping them gain control over the natives or was it the Na'vi who decided they no longer wanted their children in the company of alien 'monsters'?
Avatar is a movie about a guy with blue balls running through the forest chasing tail.

Hufwe Makto

in the movie when Jake first meets Tsu'Tey, he says, "these demons are forbidden here," (can't remember it in Na'vi and too lazy to translate) so i would guess that the Tribe omitted the uniltìrantokx from their kllpxìltu.

Tanhì Tireafya'o

I think it was the tribe. First of all because these demons are forbidden here. Second because the humans want to study them and that would be best when they are near and they have a large group at school. So why would they shut down they main source for research?

Well, they'd have to be on Pandora for at most twenty years.

If you figure it takes 5-6 years to get there, and they've known about the place for ~25 years, they'd have to send out a team immediately after they discovered the planet in order to get there. And since they didn't know about the creatures, or what to expect, they probably set up Grace's school quite a while after the first expedition.

So,
25 - 5 = 20
20 - 12 (for going back to earth, then sending out the first official team) = 8

So Grace's school can't have been open for more than ~8 years.

This is all speculative, but I think it's accurate enough.
