I know people love to poke fun at this scene as being unrealistic.  And certainly things like CSI have set the expectation of ludicrous levels of enhancement.

Something I keep meaning to point out when it comes up is that the technology actually exists.  You can't take any random picture and enhance the resolution, but it is entirely possible to take a video and use the motion between frames to form a higher resolution image than exists in any single frame.  And they don't actually take it to the extreme of some shows, where they enhance 3 pixels into a readable license plate.  It's more like a 4x resolution enhancement.  (2x horizontal and 2x vertical.)

What I think is weird about this scene, is that at first when Quaritch says "Freeze it right... There!", the video is perfectly clear.
However when he says "Scale up... Enhance" and the camera switches back to the monitor, all of a sudden it's really blurry, and then they enhance it back to a sharpened version of the original.  ???

At first they just zoom in,  which makes the picture blurry. Next they interpolate from the preceding and succeeding video frames to increase the detail. The enhancement is far from perfect; if you look closely you will notice plenty of artefacts.
We learn from our mistakes only if we are made aware of them.
If I make a mistake, please bring it to my attention for karma.

And when you freeze a video, what was perfectly clear in when it was in motion becomes slightly blurry as a still anyway

When I saw the movie the second time and this scene came, CSI was the first thing in my mind. I watch CSI way too much, so I see such ludicrous enhancement frequently and laugh every time. You can't pull extra resolution out of the air. I almost LOL'd in the cinema at this scene.

Also, quite interesting to see that tech actually exists for such enhancement, at least for videos. Any enhancement (even a meager 4x) is better than no enhancement I suppose.
