i hate people like this... i mean i have also heard about people comparing the humans as "america" and how they say if we want something we just take it

Actually that IS one of the metaphors presented in this movie... Learn some history of the United States' CIA operations in the Congo and South America. This is one of the reasons this movie was so popular with the international audience. The story is also a parallel for Manifest Destiny, which involved a "gold rush" in which Natives were continuously pushed off of their land while settlers/miners from the East Coast basically blew apart the mountains to get at the shiny rocks. Sound familiar?

As for religious fanaticism, the whole "Eywa" thing is pretty paganistic in its own way, but I wouldn't let it concern myself with the freaked out people. They only represent a very small (but loud) portion of our population, and giving them attention is feeding them. Their speech shows just how insecure they are about themselves and their own beliefs.

Nah, you want REAL demonic, Mr. Preacher?  Do some research on Veyanism... or something of the like.

Or better yet, just go to a REAL haunted house.  Sometimes those places are haunted by VERY demonic beings.

From my Wiccan point of view, Satanists are not Pagans.  They are Anti-Christians.  Pagans do NOT believe in SATAN as such.  Yes there is a God of the Underworld in most Pagan views, but that God is not EVIL.  That God is simply the God who oversees the underworld.  And the underworld doesn't really refer to Hell, it refers to the afterlife in all it's incarnations.

These idiots ...
1.  don't understand Wicca.
2.  don't understand the world around them.
3.  don't understand their own religion (Let's face it, even Jesus believed in Reincarnation.  In the Bible, someone asks Jesus if he is Elijah reborn and Jesus responds, "I tell you, Elijah has already walked among you and you knew him not.")
4.  don't understand that their own religious holidays were formed around all the old Pagan holidays.
5.  probably don't even realize that even in Judaism there is a consort of the God, a female Deity called Shekinah (I'm not sure of the spelling there).  She is the Consort of God.  She is Holy and She is a Goddess.  This is in Judaism!  You know that little religion that spawned Christianity?

I'm just tired of these preachers who think they know everything, trying to tell ME that I am being misled, when I believe that if they knew what the world was all about, they would KNOW that they were the ones being misled.

The fact remains that this movie that we all love is about taking care of the Earth.  And I don't care what god you worship, that god does not want the Earth to die.  This planet is being systematically destroyed by our ignorance and inattention.

I'm sorry.  I just get really riled up when people try to FORCE their ignorant views on others.

I agree and disagree with some parts here: in general I do agree that a LOT of Christian people, and a lot of them being very well known people, do not understand the book better.

Though I respect your interpretation, I think what Jesus was saying was "He was here before and you ignored him."  The bible is another book though: free for interpretation (That's why there are 38,000 Christian denominations: because people interpreted different ways).

Most of what you say, ma Tunvrrtep, I am in complete agreement with.  Outspoken and a lot of other Christians as a whole act like we know everything, and frankly all that does is it make us look like a**-holes.

This is why, though I believe Christianity, I have put myself in a position where I try and learn as much as I can from as many different points of view as possible.  So when I meet a person like this, I can tell him what, for example, a Muslim REALLY believes and sees, and how this person's mindset of what a Muslim is is warped.  And if he starts being preachy, tell him what an ignorant a** he's being.

Sorry for the rant... I just hate ignorance.  I KNOW I've been ignorant, and constantly strive to get rid of it.

... All I'm really trying to say is that these people need to be more educated on their topics that they are talking about before they talk about them.  Otherwise, it's basically just (as an old Composition professor would say) verbal diarrhea.

I think the actual quote depends on the version of the Bible you read.

But your point is really still the same as mine in regard to the idea behind the quote.  It still means Jesus believed in Reincarnation (one of the most universal of all the Pagan beliefs).

This. Totally...

I still think that we actually are on different understandings of the reference... but that's okay. I'm not trying to convince you of anything.  I'm just saying how I interpret it.

If you still wish to discuss what I mean, I'm sure we could talk about it through a PM.  But for now, let's rant about these guys and their ignorance!!! ;D

I'll be happy to rant about that!!!

I really don't understand the idea that they have though.  I know that they don't understand the Pagan religions.  But for "God's" sake, think before you speak, idiots!  Or at least study what you're going to berate before you berate it.

I have studied many different religions in my studies of Wicca.  Most if not all religions in the world, have a "Do unto others" teaching in them.  Maybe they should "Do unto others as they would have done unto them."

These guys make Christianity look bad. Please do not use these guys as the stereotype of Christians.

Eyamsiyu

What's funny with the whole Christian thing is that there is SO MUCH TEXT, and yet a lot of Christians avoid the only words that really matter in Christianity, which Jesus said himself:

1) Love God
2) Love others.

Everything else in the Bible goes into what is said here.  The latter is what I want this to focus on.  If a Christian really cares about others, he shouldn't be quick to call out another religion as wrong, because that isn't loving others.  But UNFORTUNATELY 85% of practicing Christians are quick to call out another person for what they believe as "wrong" and try to force them to believe what they believe.  And in this sense, they have already failed at half of what Jesus said Christians should do.

If I recall correctly, Wiccan followers have a set of rules (13, I think?), and one of them is to learn all they can about others and what-not.  I have not met very many practicing Wiccan people, but of those that I have (many of which are here), you are doing much of a better job of understanding those around us than Christians are.  Evidence is shown right here in your words, ma Tunvrrtep, and via what these preachers are saying.

I sometimes don't even call myself a Christian based on the poor name the Christian history has given itself...

Maria TunVrrtep

So everyone knows, I was raised Roman Catholic.  I went to an Episcopal church and was married in it.

I don't personally have anything against Christians.  I do have something against idiots who think they know what's best for everyone else but don't do what's best for themselves.

My feeling is that if you do not study what your own religion is about then you shouldn't be putting down the religion of someone else.  These people study the words not the meaning.

Like I said I don't have anything against Christians.  I just don't want to be told that I shouldn't be worshiping the way I want to, when I don't tell anyone else how to worship.

As far as the 13 rules ... that depends on the sect of Wicca.  I go by a single rule.  What I put out into the universe, comes back to me 3-fold or 10-fold depending on how I put it out.  In other words, if I do something purposefully, it comes back to me 10 fold.  If I do something accidentally or indirectly, if comes back to me 3 fold.  Example - My ex-husband, before he was my ex, was in a car accident.  The Dump Truck that hit the car that hit his car, fled the accident.  I did a little "Instant Karma" spell.  It basically makes Karma work faster than normal.  Well within 2 weeks, the dump truck was found because the owner tried to get it fixed.  Apparently, the person driving it was an illegal alien in the US and after the accident fled back to Mexico.  My Instant Karma spell, basically found the guy and the owner of the truck, gave the guy and the owner a smack and then came back and handed my husband a nice big check from the insurance company so he could go buy a new car.  Good results in all.

I have had women ask me about Love spells and I always tell them the same thing.  DON'T!  The reason is that when you do a love spell who are you hurting with it.  Suppose the guy you want to fall in love with you is married or dating someone else.  He leaves her and goes with you.  Hasn't that hurt the other woman?  The first rule we have is "An it please ye, Harm none."  Doesn't that basically mean the same as "Do Unto others as you would have done unto you?"  Don't hurt other people and you won't get hurt.

So, my advice to anyone who is saying these stupid things about the movie is, "Think before you speak.  If you harm others, don't they have the right, according to your religion, to harm you in return?"  Not to say that I would do harm to others.  I am not the type of person who would do that.  I'd let Karma handle it.  Karma and the Goddess can do much worse to them than I ever could. ;D
