So, this was the last weekend for avatar to be in theaters... (around here) so... i hate to say it, but it was my 3rd time seeing it, and the second time was almost 2 months ago.

I have been learning navi, for... 2 months... and seeing it this third time... and understanding... not everything... but most of it... the navi.  It was amazing. but there is this one scene...

one scene, no subtitles... the missles are being launched at hometree... and we see everyone running away... and we see neytiri, and Eytukan, running away... and then... we dont notice this the first few times, we just see it go to the next scene... more missles... but Eytukan, turns around, to go back to help others, and Neytiri, says "father, no!"... and when I heard that, in navi... we all know what happen next, but... realizing that Neytiri asks her father to not go back...

It changes everything.

Will Txankamuse

yes I like that scene too

Eytukan is telling Neytiri to run to the forest.  She replies 'Kehe!' and then he orders her to go.

Much better with the Na'vi :)

I know. That scene is SO much more powerful as a result. And not having subtitles makes it that much better.

^Yea, not having subtitles and making the audience draw their own conclusion, or in our case knowing what she is saying, makes it a better scene.

That is an amazing scene it did make me cry when I saw it the 3rd time (I was not distracted by the 3D or shocked by what has been happening before it I am critical when I see movies for the first time, also I was not with anyone who I knew so I was able to actually be "in the movie".) and I cried when Tsu'te died I am glad and sad that JC cut the Tsu'te death scene from the theater release because that would have made me cry even harder. It is funny I love the movie and have seen in 27 times now and have been learning Na'vi for 2 months now, but before I saw Avatar (after 2 months of my friends and others telling me I have to go see it) I was against the movie thought it was dumb lets just say I was more than a little surprised at the end of the movie as I am now a mega fan if you will, it is also funny when you speak niNa'vi by accident or when someone is talking to you and as you are listening instead of hearing there words in English your mind translates them to Na'vi.

Defo!
I'm still hoping the DVD has the option to turn off the english subtitles entirely.

I'll bet it will, all we gotta do is ask James Cameron to put a "Na'vi ni'aw" option on the Subtitles menu.

LOL ;D ;D

I do believe there was a "navi subtitles" and a "navi dubs" thread somewhere around here...

if you don't get the blue-ray version or if you have a blu-ray capable computer (note this is probably illegal and am by no means promoting this as an option) you can use software (like handbreak for mac) to rip it and then use VLC to detect and remove the .srt file. But it will probably have a Na'vi ni'aw option.

I plan to take the work the community has done on transcribing the Na'vi and make an .srt file for the Na'vi, probably for my own consumption though, since distributing it would probably be illegal.

Probably find the english subtitles are embedded in the image files.

Actually we can find that out!
Anyone here who's seen a non english version, are english subtitles on screen during the Na'vi dialog scenes?

What would be epic win is if there's a na'vi language track on the DVD.

I've noticed the scene in question, and surprisingly, until just recently, it never really tugged at me emotionally. But over the last say 3-4 screenings, the deeper meanings of the scenes os coming forth, and i experience the gambit of emotions from ecstatic joy to devastating despair and defeat.
See that shadow? It's the last one you're gonna see.

As a bit of a video ripping/encoding nerd, I've NEVER seen a movie that has subtitles embedded into the actual video file. I don't know if the movie itself will have an option to turn off the na'vi subtitles, but I know when it comes out, I'll dust off my BD transcoding stuff and probably post a HOWTO on doing it (Yes, it is legal). As a side note, I'll probably also mod the srt to make the subtitles Helvetica, because papyrus is the only thing wrong with Avatar.

Or, if you use a good media player, you could turn the subs off without ripping the disc. Unless they burn in the subtitles.
