Well, I guess I meant the timing was interesting. I mean, the Oscars were just awarded and less than a week later, these guy come forward at the same time?

Actually, both articles predate the Oscars, though not the nominations.

And I heard the Hurt Locker came out in November 2009. Course, I had no idea it existed until the awards. Couldn't have come out in '08, as it couldn't have won awards for this year, srane?

I believe it did an Italian release first (which frankly made me cough a little when their sound guy accepted the Oscar and went on and on about how they didn't do test showings like the big budget movies did).

And why would you even bother attempting to sue Jim, I am pretty sure he has better lawers than pretty bumch anyone who wants to get rich fast by claiming JC stole there generic Sci-Fi idea (if anything JC could sue them for basing there stuff off of his '94 script (ha i am as old as Avatar YAY) ).

IDK, but I can say that he probably does not have the best lawyers: that right belongs to Disney.  They spend their time doing 1 of 2 things: making and producing shows and movies, and finding ways to protect their rights even more than they already are.

Personally, this person was rather smart for doing what he did.  I hate that he did it, but consider the facts: Avatar just made over 2 billion dollars.  This man, should he accuse, takes Cameron into Chinese court, where he will inevitably win.  Even the most powerful lawyers can't rule out what another government says and does.

This is when we hire Batman to get this man, since the Chinese won't extradite one of their own.  Then we hold the case in U.S. court! ;D

Pretty sure boatloads of cash and the support of a major film corporation can buy you a crack legal team in China just as it can in the US. Also pretty sure that international law between China and the US doesn't actually work that way, otherwise everyone in the US would sue everyone in China and everyone in China would sue everyone in the US and then everyone would demand that the other country respect the decisions and hand over tons of money.

China actually has huge issues with intellectual property. It is very rare to see china enforce protections on US IP and they also have a history of allowing nationals to get away with crazy things. I have extremely low expectations but I do hope I'm wrong.

Lawsuits in the entertainment business are seemingly common.  Everyone wants to win, by win, make tons of money and not lose to any competition.  When they fail at grabbing the attention of the buying public, they sue.

Somehow you must have challenged the powers that be on this one. :P

^ I am absolutely ecstatic to be wrong about this one. Hopefully this will start a trend with chinese courts, it would make a lot of things easier. :)

I bet the Chinese gov't put him up to this. They're mad that Avatar (slightly) describes the gov't of China as being evil. That's why they banned it from a lot of the theaters.

Wait:

Quote from: Article
An unknown Chinese author

Beijing man Zhou Shaomou

Contradiction much?

The funniest thing about it is, on the VERY VERY VERY slim chance that guy wins the lawsuit, the Chinese government would confiscate the winnings, winfalls in China are near impossible to get thanks to the Communist system.

So wait... the Hurt Locker is supposed to have a guy claiming that the story is based on him... and at the same time, Avatar has another guy claiming he wrote the original story... right after they both earn a bunch of awards and a ton of money? Hmmm... seems a little late to come forward.

Exactly right. Its probably just a scheming bunch of parasites that want to take a chunk out of Cameron's profits.

Take a look at this too:
