The only way to be safe and stop AIDS epidemic is by not makin sex?1
i lol`d.
WTF this guy is too crazy even by vatican standarts!
Avatar is "bland" and there`s noting behid the pretty eyecandy! I lol`d again.
There`s no sain mind behind anything coming from the vatican.
From all the weapons you have used against us, we always feared your guns least!

That was so funny. I'm sorry but anyone who feels threatened about a movie "worshiping" the planet is just plain ignorance and intolerance.

Kisora

We have to understand, that they as religious leaders, are EXPECTED to be against these things....

Imagine if the pope actually supported avatar, he would be replaced in a minute for betraying his own religion...

And media is always controlled, can't trust them as well

Exactly.

With all my respect to the Catholics, the Vatican is a decadent institution that has nothing to do with the real words Jesus spoke.   The Vatican is a politic and financial power that will lose money if it loses its audience.  This is why it can't bear with polemic issues, the very same ones science used to reject, but now it is just finding the same answers that ancient peoples and cultures had in the past. No man on Earth has the right to claim to be a representant of "God' because the core of almost any religion is based on subjective interpretations that, through the milenia, had only led to conflicts, war, hatred, rascism.

It is even kinda sad and funny, like someone here also said, the the Vatican concerns itself with such a "bland'' - fictional - movie like Avatar.  Would the Vatican ever commented on the film if it had no reasons to be really worried? hummmm  And remember what happened to The Da Vinci Code book and movie. The Vatican had the same behaviour with them, like pronouncing its opinion, which, for me, only corroborated that everything is just true. Archeology has proved it and the Vatican itself has all the evidences of proving that Jesus had not only a huge family with brothers and sisters, but also a family with Magdalena, who was also her most trustable apostles.

Back to Avatar, let the Vatican say whatever it wants... the world is changing and the Vatican can't concel it anymore.

Yes let's be positive! Look on the bright side!

Every time the Vatican says they hate something it gets a boost in popularity! Just look at Dan Brown's stuff. It wouldn't have been nearly as possible with out some Vatican controversy.

I say we bug them even more!

Perhaps we should send a note to the pope in Na'vi.  End it with "Eywa ngahu".

Good times!

The Vatican lashes out at anything that gets in the media spotlight so they can still pretend they have some relevancy. They're killing Africa with their backwards superstitious ways.

I went to Catholic, then Christian, and once to a Lutheran church growing up... I even considered becoming a priest before I got out of high-school (1991~1992)... I rapidly broke some of the rules, and I don't go to any church anymore...

I have reason to believe there are as yet unknown results from the essence of humanity being imprinted in our reality, left behind after death, or experienced as displaced events out of sync with linear space time continuity.  There could be a scientific explanation for it, I am still waiting for the tech to help measure it since I have no ability to develop it myself.

I have had exposure to haunting, and so have members of my family.  I have had exposure to psychic phenomena, including direct visual precognition, yet I never seem to trap it well to use it ahead of the event, I need a more analytical process for it.

I think orthodoxy in religion is only a system of control meant to allow people in ranking positions in the given religion, who have faith and have OCPD, to prevent what they perceived to be anarchy from causing the controllers stress.  I do not think those in charge of various religions knows god anymore than those in the seats, or even more than those not attending with any regularity any longer.  Also, I think that some have excessively abused this control to the detriment to the credibility of the Church...

I think that faith in deities other than the larger human based monotheistic ones is a perfectly legitimate pursuit.

I think that the religious orthodoxy of any faith wanting to hate or reject a movie for religious views is perfectly legitimate statement and thing for them to do or to feel.

My response, of which I also think has been the common response for many people, was to just go and buy another ticket to watch Avatar...

Remember, "church" or more broadly, "religion" is a artificial human construct that tries to take belief, faith, spirituality (what have you) and channel towards something physical. Usually to the lining of the pockets of the guy that built the church.

You can be full of faith in all kinds of cool things and never once see the inside of a church building (mosque, synagogue, you know the drill).

And that kind of conversation shall not be in this thread. This is about the news from the w/e and not deconstructing religion.
