IMO, the re-release version is how the movie should have been in the first place, and how it should be now. Everything else other than what was in the re-release is just extra fluff, most of it rather unneeded. But the motif and atmosphere of the re-release is what should have been conveyed the first time.

Even if they had just released it originally with Tsu'tey's death, none of the other extra scenes--IMO that was really important to the story.

OH YES they were. Tsu'tey attacking the convoy was a HUGE part missing. It showed that the Na'vi arn't just some happy go lucking, peacefull, tree hugging people. It showed their darker side, and showed that the actions of the RDA were more justified. It offered the catalyst to the attack on Hometree. Without it, it just makes the entire RDA nothing but heartless bastards, but with that scene, it gave ample reason, especially being the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back" event. Even when the RDA attacked hometree, they used gas first. In an effort to drive em out without killing them.

The hunting scene was... meh. The school scene was much needed also. It showed that both RDA and Na'vi were constantly fighting.

Tsu'tey's death was semi-important. It was more a fan service than anything.

Ok, I think attacking the convoy was good, but I don't think the scene of Wainfleet showing the damage was necessary. I mean, I'm all for extras, but if I were Cameron trying to cut down the runtime, that scene wouldn't definitely wouldn't've been a must have. :P

School scene was helpful, I agree. I liked the hunting scene only because of the atmosphere, but again, it didn't add to the story, only complimented it.

I think Tsu'tey's death was important just because it added...I don't know...more substance to the movie, although it already has quite a lot of substance. ;) It's a very powerful scene.

you must remember the runtime of the collector's edition wasn't as much a constraint as it was in the original release, so Cameron wasn't trying to keep it "short", just adding in some extra scenes.

At that stage, it really just boiled down to a point of them picking a few extra low cost scenes to produce, and adding them for the Collector's edition.  It gives viewers extra incentive to get the Collectors version even if they have already just seen the Special Edition.

I just watched them because I thought I saw them but only saw the new scenes

I liked the scene where all but one of the scientists barricaded themselves in the link room and used their avatars and the other scientist used the feller (tree cutting machine) to cut open the control room and the avatars took over, and selfrige was saying "please stop shooting"

it was nice to see all those people there who wanted to stop the attack. Imagine if the scientist were in charge..

I absolutely loved that scene.

I also loved the alternate opening. I feel like it adds a lot more to the contrast between Earth and Pandora, thus establishing more motivation for Jake to stay on Pandora. Also, I liked that the theme of the movie is basically stated in dialogue: "The strong will always prey on the weak" or something like that. And then it gets flipped - the Na'vi become the strong and the humans become the weak. I loved that...

May the odds be ever in your favor.

Human No More

I'm not such a fan of the alternate opening. It just doesn't have the same feel, and really takes quite a while to get going.
The original opening... it has me in tears the whole way though. The alternate one, just... doesn't.

I'd love to be able to pick and choose which scenes I wanted to add in and which to leave out...

Mind you, there are some of the deleted scenes I'd put back in that way too. :-\

;D I guess we'd all love to make our own individual movie :-*

Dalva

i'd say all deleted scene should have made it.  ;D
imagine an Extensive Extended Collector's Customizable Edition, where all deleted scenes are re-rendered and finished. and when the movie began we can choose which deleted scene we want to see and which to hide

An interesting thing is that this would be very possible with some clever BD-Java coding :D

Wouldn't it be awesome if they at some later point decided to finish the effects on all of the scenes? Then it would be possible to make a "community fully extended"- version even if they wouldn't decide to put everything in the real movie.

I've always wondered why they'd bother to add deleted scenes to a disk but no option to play the entire movie with them in. Even if they're incomplete, it'd be a cool feature in so many movies.

I've also wondered about this...for DVD, it's probably a technical limitation. DVDs can't run Java like BDs can...

For BDs though...maybe they just didn't feel like writing the code? Or thought there'd be no demand?

i wonder why they waste their money to make the scenes that are finally not completed?
like why the CGI scenes like the jake's first dinner in kelutral is not rendered completely in the collector's edition? it wont be a hard thing to do. i mean, they already have the motion capture files, the scene, the actor 3d models, the speech, camera placements and so forth. they only need to render it in higher detail
