« on: February 02, 2010, 08:39:03 pm »
bomwIj yI'Ij!  na'vIy be' 'IH bop.
jatlhpu' ghaH, << ma'IQqu'taHvIS, malop. >>
jatlhpu' tera'ngan,
<< panDo'ra' wIDan! >>
ja'pu' na'vIy, << Sa'HutwIj SuD yIchop. >>

In English/DI'vI' Hol:

Listen to my song!  It's about a beautiful Na'vi girl.
She said, "When we're really sad, we party."
A human said,
"We're going to occupy Pandora!"
The Na'vi girl said, "Kiss my blue @ss!"

Some comments:

bomwIj yI'Ij!  na'fI' be' 'IH bop.

There is no f in Klingon, so the closest substitute is v. Also, for the high front vowel i, which does not exist in Klingon, there is an established "cheat" -- Iy -- which also appears in the subheading for this board. If you really want "girl" rather than "woman", there's be'Hom, but the English word is used for both half of the time anyway.

<< ma'IQqu'taHvIS, malop. >>

This is literally "we party while we're being very sad". If you want less of a simultaneous feel and more of a sequential one, ma'IQqu'DI' malop or ma'IQqu'chugh (vaj) malop would be some other options.

ja'pu' na'fI', << Sa'HutwIj Sud yIchop. >>

Same as above, and note that it's SuD (typo).

Since Klingon verbs are unmarked for tense, the perfective -pu' is not really necessary, but I suppose there are also meter constraints to consider -- which also applies to some of the above comments. :)

And -- great work! Rhyming in Klingon is certainly no easy task, I know. ;D

Fixed the typos - good catch, Lance!

You're right - the perfective is really there for the meter more than anything else; it's an easy way to get an extra syllable without modifying the rhyming word at the end of the line.  I thought about using jay', which is appropriate for a limerick, but I didn't care for the sound when it's stressed - it affected the rhythm of the line too much.

Sorry, but I prefer Na'vi..  ;)
Varför minns jag alla dåliga vitsar, men glömmer alla infix i Na'vi?? ???
Why do I remember all bad jokes, but forget all the infixes in Na'vi?? :-[
