Australia Immigration

I think I have found our way in.

Should we choose Australia as our base, we have found an issue: immigration is, in one word, a b****.

In fact, it seemed that there was NO WAY for us to set up the tribe there. It took me 2 hours of trawling through the Australian Immigration database before I found something that could get us temporary or even permanent visas.

Check out the visa options here: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/visa-permanent.htm. I don't think the top two options work for us that well...

It requires that there is a business set up in Australia by an Australian citizen. Once this is done, applications for "skilled" workers from overseas can be sent.

There are two requirements for this plan, though. First - Our Australian representative, who will need to not only start the business and fill in all the paperwork but also purchase the land and contact immigration.
Second - Note the word "skilled". The Australian government can still deny these "labour agreements" - and we would need to provide convincing reasons why we are in the business and not some poor Australian who could do the job better. This could mean (eek) that everyone needs some kind of higher education degree. And of course, for some people this may be impossible.

But anyway - there is a chance!!!

Well I'm studying for my degree now (Industrial Design) so I wonder if that'll help.

Not that I'm trying to shoot this idea down but this has some real drawbacks. Largely that it would not be entirely legal: we can't just employ people with university degrees to 'farm' or run an eco tourism business. The government wants to ensure that any immigrants are highly skilled and go into high skill employment.

This method would work in most countries, even Brazil and the US (for temporary at least) but is very much bending the law. In Australia I'm concerned it would be a bit too far. Despite this, and as I've said many times, Australia is a great place so keep trying. Furthermore, if we stand any chance of being granted some sort of exemption I think Australia would be the best bet, although the chances of this happening anywhere are basically zero.

This may sound obsurd and is probably unlikely but maybe we should scan the oceans in search for "Island X". It may possibly exist - an island that has not yeat been discovered, therefore it doesn't belong to a nation.. so we could "claim" it.. no?
Anyway, just a funny idea I had..

earths surface is unfortunately completely discovered thanks to satelites .
there are no unknown islands left but there are uninhabited and even some few unclaimed islands. but there are some major reasons for this:
they are too far away from any greater landmass and they often lack vegetation.

Just to elaborate on the *sarcasm begins* build an island *sarcasm ends* idea, I actually watched a documentary that had a man hand make an island out of scrap plastic bottles. He managed, somehow, to grow flora as well.

I'm just stimulating doubts. Instead of having me telling you this is wrong or that is not right (which a lot of people don't like to hear), I prefer to ask you questions that you'd ask yourself. If you can't answer it then it confirms my doubts, if you can then I am enlightened. Win-win solution. =D

Ah, nice approach.

I am just used to being ridiculed for stupid ideas; I belonged to a Western Australian base reptile forum and if something arose which the "active" members (which consisted of about 15 adult men who found pleasure in putting down younger members) would mock it. It would generally result in that person having to leave the forum or having to make a new account. First, it happened to my friend because he bought livestock from a shop that were sick and he was not made aware of it. He expressed his feelings and the members of that forum responded with insult, hatred etc. Anyway, the only way possible to stay on that forum was to comment once every week and let the "bullies" have their forum.
Maybe I'm just not used to having nice people on forums , despite my idiotic contributions. I just want to highlight that my intentions are positive and am glad to be a part of this forum.

Don't worry ma tsmukan, if your intentions are positive it doesn't matter how bizarre or how stupid they are. I encourage you to put up any idea you have. We aren't all perfect. Its always when stupid or weird ideas come together and get debated do they turn into great ideas.

I only don't welcome ill intentions but I think you're alright. =)

Exactly. We here at the learn navi forum are all like a communal group - we need to get along!

Also for the slight reason that if and when this all follows through we will need to live and work side by side with each other!

I only mentioned building an island because we spent a great deal of time on that a few months ago, nothing to do with your post. The conditions it would be subject to on open waters would be too extreme and ultimately no one wanted to live on something totally dependent on outside resources.  I could see it working in theory, we had mainly ideological objections.
