I'd personally say if we could get the money for geraldo we should get it , it does have a small conection to the mainland so animals cam get in and out meaning we can easily hunt sustainably, it still has good privacy, good access to water, good access to towns for supplies and health care, good access to trees and animals.

Disease is a problem, also immigration is am issue but we can think of ways around these issues all we have to do is research all the immigration laws and see a clever simple legal way around it and disease, we would have to find what diseases affect the area, how bad the diseases are, how many cases of the diseases there are in the surrounding are, methods of treaent and prevention and then implement these into our village

If we're willing to come back into civilization every once in a while for vaccinations, it shouldn't be a problem (especially with the mainland connection).

Transport is actually really good. It's 20 minutes from the shore by a boat service then 145km (80miles-ish) to Belem.

If we could supplement our diet with seafood then it may be practical. 3000 acres of tropical rainforest may be a reasonable area for no more than 20 people.

I don't think an island is likely but this example has convinced me that it can be a very practical solution. Also more remote islands (unfortunately more expensive) may reduce if not avoid the disease issue. The mainland is so much worse.

Very good point. If we're only a small group of say 20 or a bit more, there should be enough vegetation and seafood to sustain us. We can hunt animals to add on to that but perhaps we shouldn't rely on land animals as our primary food source. We still need them for our body requirements but maybe in an appropriate quantity, only what we need.

Living at more remote areas reduces our risk of contracting diseases but at the same time, it would mean we'd be more disadvantaged when incidents that require professional medical help happen. I suppose we have to reach some sort of compromise. I'd go for a more secluded area cause well, prevention is better than cure right?

Where we're looking at right now, Brazil, has the Chagas Disease (our primary concern now). And there are no vaccinations for it yet.

Yes, the best is to find a place that has the lowest risk of contracting deadly diseases as possible.

Oh. That's good news. =)

Now we just have to make sure we screen any foreigner that steps into our Pandora, or kill them with arrow dipped in neurotoxin.

I think one thing that needs to seriously be considered is the political atmosphere in the countries that are being considered as well.

The last thing you want is to try and settle in a country that would try and force you to follow a certain religious or political ideology.  Places that are in turmoil, as well, are a bad idea.  I know the plan is to be secluded from society, but no matter what you do, you're going to have to play by the government's (or lack there-of) rules more then you would probably think.  You certainly don't want to go to a place that has heavy drug trafficking, where the cartels will try to chase you out with guns and bombs, or take your land for their farms.

Predict

Brazil would require (for numerous reasons) a good financial backing. If we have enough money to operate independently and the government get something out of this (even if minimal), I doubt they would touch us. We may have disagreements with the government for two reasons I can think of: Non-contribution to the economy, and a backwards nature. All these countries are attempting to modernize and often willing to go to extreme lengths to do so.

Well, there is my impossible idea: Buy an island and secede from the holding country. It'd be impossible because it would not happen and it would leave up open for any country to walk in and take over.

Here's something that I think you guys might be interested in. Auroraglacialis, from the Revs, made this. It's an edited map showing all the subtropical/temperate areas of the world highlighted, and excluded climates (though I know there's still sporadic talk of full-tropical here) being greyed out.
