Location: Plan for Research and Discussion

There was a discussion about land, can't remember the thread name and can't link as I am on my phone anyway. There were plans to set up a donation scheme and some were looking at getting funding from organizations that might support us. Other than that, there are some (like me ) who intend to put aside all the money we can for getting the tribe started. Others were looking for land that may be free from any legal claim as well as considering appealing to governments to donate land. As for discussions, either Nanaki or Bagget is organizing that (I think) so they should have a plan for that, I only got people on to the chat because Bagget's computer was down although I always keep my skype on (although ocasionaly invisible if I am working) so feel free to just turn up there for now

The cost of land's going to be massively variable depending on where we are. The U.S. is not going to be the cheapest place, if we're in a continental tropical area for example it should be vastly less.

It'd be nice is a generous government granted us living rights in a national park, you know, to show how progressive and environmentally aware they are . Right, that's not going to happen...

There is always hope 'Eylan! Anyway on a more realistic note it has practicaly been decided that the location will not be NA unless some amazing new information comes to light, it will more likely be SA or Oceania I think although anywhere is a good location if there are reasons to back it up. We do however have plenty of time to save money for this and if we all work together to save money for this (some of us when we get jobs if we are still in education) then it is realisticaly achievable to buy the land.

Rutxe, You're new here, and you have to know that we've discuted a lot about the location (especially for Oceania), what is dangerous ... and as fnua said, all the places can be great, we have to discuss about many things, all the places have advantages and disadvantages ...

Yeah there's no problem, I just would say that the location is a big think really "vague", and we are a little nowhere about that. Even if many of us would like to go in Oceania or SA, it's not done.
We are still studying all the others places.

Yeah, those are just the areas we have not yet excluded, it is more than possible that they will be, we just need to discuss the areas and research them more rather than jumping on an immediate yes or no. Those are just current ideas that are under discussion, not what will happen

Just to bring this a bit more on topic, that is planning and researching. As I have said I think we need to get an ideal hypothetical location decided on, what does everyone think about this?
It just makes more sense to have an overview of what we want rather than dealing with lots of places individually.

If this is supported I would suggest we determine the following features (probably in this order):

• Climate - Temperature range, rainfall, humidity. Then classification e.g. humid subtropical

• Vegetation Type (e.g. forest, tundra)

• Biome - Which is essentially the end result (taking into account climate and vegetation type). Although it's quite new to me this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holdridge_life_zones may be a good classification. The wikipedia article has a good summary of various classification systems http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biome.

We have a rough idea of what we want but I think if we spend a few weeks getting it confirmed that would help push forward finding an actual location. Also, remember this is a best case scenario, we can deal with reality when we start looking at real places, at least we would know if it's close to what we want/need.

If this is supported I will start posting up summaries of some different climates, with their encompassed biomes, and information on any tribe-ish groups inhabiting the appropriate areas (at least any information I can find).

Looks good so far. We also want to look at what kind of game we will be hunting, especially since that will be the real life or death issue there, is whether we will be able to take it down with arrows.

I think that we should be looking at both this kind of approach (nice job so far by the way) as well as looking at actual locations as this can often lead to us discovering what it is we want hypotheticaly and vice versa. I think a combination of these types of research would be the most efficient

Good point about the game/wildlife, that is very important. And I think sources will be very important.

About the actual location point, the idea of this is that these are real climate or biomes &c. with real characteristics. Whatever we get out of this will be quite attainable with hopefully minimal compromise.
