Kaltxì ma aysmuk,

I am proposing a new research location which is the country of Chile in South America. Alright, initial research have showed positive results.

Climate wise, Chile hosts at least 7 climatic subtypes such as desert, alpine tundra, humid subtropical, oceanic and Mediterranean. In terms of population density, it is as low as 22 to a square kilometre. Currently, Chile is one of South America's most stable and prosperous nations. It leads Latin American nations in human development, competitiveness, quality of life, political stability, globalization, economic freedom, low perception of corruption and comparatively low poverty rates.

Chile's geographical isolation also has restricted the immigration of faunal life, so that only a few of the many distinctive Latin American animals are found. Among the larger mammals are the puma or cougar, the llama-like Guanaco, the Andean Wolf, and the fox-like chilla. In the forest region, several types of marsupials and a small deer known as the pudu are found. There are many species of small birds, but most of the larger common Latin American types are absent. Few freshwater fish are native, but North American trout have been successfully introduced into the Andean lakes.

So far that's what I've gathered from the main Wikipedia article on Chile. However there are more that go into detail on different regions as well as the ecosystem of Chile which I have not begun study on.

Issues such as immigration laws, terrorist threats as well as land prices have not been researched on. I will continue to research on Chile but I like what I see so far so hopefully further research will show positive results.

having already talked about it with Esmond on skype, I think that it definitely sounds like it is worth looking into further, it looks and sounds really promising ^_^

This is fantastic!!! Do you have MSN or Skype? I'd love to do some research with you. Can you send me a personal message?

Hi.
I took interest in Chile also for the Revolutionists tribe and immediately found this thread here. May I also pm you for information or will you post information in this thread? Up to now, my information is very general (Wikipedia) and on land prices only. We have set up a Wiki for location research: http://revolutionists.aurora-glacialis.de/wiki/index.php/Chile - sadly not much information on the various contries yet, but I hope it will pick up if peole have the time (when's the next holidays? ;) ) - feel free to use the Wiki also, if you like.

Greetings, Aurora
I will just give some advice here and not participate in polls as I am involved with development of a sister clan of this one here which was founded independently. I believe however, we are one clan and we should stick together!

I still like this, too. Nice to see that more places are becoming possible, but I need to do my own research on this place, once I'm done with Oceania.

Esmond

Yes, we should collaborate and organise our research objectives. Do you have skype? I would love to discuss wth you. I could help you with Oceania and you can help me with Chile.

Chile does look like a promising location, plenty of scope climate-wise and encouragingly stable as a country.

I know I have said this a lot though but we really should decide what climate we want.
It'll save so much time. Say we decided on temperate climate rainforest vegetation it took not one minute to find the Valdivian rainforest, that's a pretty specific location very quickly.

Collaborating with the Revolutionists is an excellent prospect. We really should start coordinating our efforts more, the wiki is an ideal sort of common area for research and it's much better than storing everything on a forum.

Sadly not. I'm getting broadband soon, which could lead to that, but I can't use Skype on my current computer.

Indeed it has become my favourite after Costa Rica (which seems to be too expensive)

Where is that? In Chile?

Thanks for supporting this collaboration. I sincerely hope we can collaborate more. Imagine we have two groups in the same region - we could travel and visit ;)
Sadly, I have so little time - I managed to set up our forum and the wiki and together with Eltu and Kestor we also managed to set up our own private IRC chat recently to get some real life discussions going - and am busy doing some organizing in our group (timeline and decision making), but still try to read up on other things and educate myself with seminars on permaculture and therelike. Oh and I have a job too ;) - so I simply have not the time to read all the new posts here all the time. (I could not imagine that this time of my life would turn out to be so stressful LOL). How can we collaborate more easily? Do you have a main organizer or someone who has a good overview on the current issues in your group here that I can stay in contact with via PM to stay up to date?

I've been saying for a while that we should have like someone who goes through and reviews all the topics that we have covered and decisions that we have made and creates a kind of summary thread (I know this means going throught a hell of a lot of threads and that it will take a lot of someone's time) that shorthands eveything we have done. I offered to do it but I was waiting for mod approval and never got it, I still think that it is a good idea though ^_^

Fnua Atxkxe, this is really important. I am getting the impression, that a forum is a nice way to talk, but it is not really something that goes into a direction. Any forum I have encountered is working like this. People debate and discuss and after a while the topic is buried and forgotten and the very same issues come up again. This is why I chose to set up the Wiki for factual data collection. I was thinking mostly of location and biomes and therelike, but I am getting the idea, that it could be used for other purposes as well. A sticky, closed thread with a summary post maintained by a dedicated and active member may be a good thing, too. Luckily in our group, I am at the same time a mod and a person that tries to organize stuff, but I have a hard time doing this, as people tend to stray into other topics. I think, you should do such a summary for sure. It is of no use to have discussions repeat themselves and people coming up with the same ideas again and again anew.

Well I was thinking that summarising everything (this will be easier to do after everything is done the first time round because then the person only has to keep up with current discussions). That way not only would everyone here be able to see where we are more clearly but it would also help greatly in information sharing ^_^
