but it will take a long time to get stuff and we will not be able to survive with almost nothing in a jungle

also the jungle is always going to be deadly we will never be apart of the forest and many of us will die. And bugs you will get used to but thats not why they are dangerous its there possines and illnesses that they bring that are dangerous eg. in the amazon there is a nearly micoscopic spider that can kill you in 5 seconds

Woah... sorry to say but that first part made it seem like we're signing up to get shot...

Thats pretty much what will happen if we go to the jungle or the Amazon no offence to those who like the idea

I think if we are adequately prepared enough we can survive in a jungle. Others have, it is just a question of how much work people are prepared to put in to achieve what we want.

but were not going to have nothing ! we have 4 years to get where we want and what we need to live there. everyone seems to forget that this isnt happening tomorow, we have loads of time to get everything good!

and were not talking about the amazon are we

and you know that the crane fly is the most poisonous animal on the planet but you live around them no problem !

i wasnt getting cross I was just putting the ! to emphasise my points !

and i really dont know why i want a jungle, it may be because i wanna be somewhere diverse, maybe becuase i wanna challenge. I really dont have a clue its just what my heart is telling me (and trust me i hardly ever listen to it)

I personaly love the forest and don't like the heat that much I don't like highly humid conditions either so those are two other reasons I would rather not go to a jungle

If I had a completely free choice, then I would choose a jungle. I think it's simply because of the variety - varied colours, varied sounds, varied food!
I only say this because I live in rural england - when it's not end of spring/start os summer, the only colours are green and brown and english veg can be slightly monotonous.

Agreed and I have hear that the food is hard to get in the jungle and its terribly noisy and yes we are not very strong creatures and we do not have the knowledge and skill that the native tribes had and even after 4 years of training we will still not be ready

Let's do thorough research on all types of climates and potential locations before we start ruling them out because at the moment we can say one thing's dangerous and one other's not but we only have so much information to actually back it up.

So perhaps let's start making threads researching, jungle, coniferous forests etc.

We are adapted to our own environment and know the dangers of traffic, electricity and machines. Native tribes are adapted to the jungle or the forest and know its dangers and how to avoid them. I think people like us can still learn all these things, but it takes years and a wise teacher. Both are things which will with a plan like this not come easily. The first can be granted by a smooth way of transition, the second is much harder to come by. Books and TV shows are a poor substitute for a real life teacher who has lived in that ecology. So as someone in our group has said: "don't bite off more than you can chew". I know, the Na'Vi live in a beautiful world, but they have a tradition that goes back eons instead of some years. To make this experience worthwile, a location should provide rather easy ways of living of it. Natural occuring food sources should be plentiful, water should exist and shelter should be easily set up. Don't you think?

Something else just crossed my mind. As you here and our group also have a really hard time deciding a location for our camps, do you think it would be a good idea to set up a WIKI for that? It would provide a much better way of collecting information as forum posts. Each country, location, continent, climate zone etc could have an entry and people could add to that if new information comes up.
I will just give some advice here and not participate in polls as I am involved with development of a sister clan of this one here which was founded independently. I believe however, we are one clan and we should stick together!

Seems like my last post didn't go through for some reason :S

Anyways I can't be bothered typing it all again but in escence it gets onto what you guys are thinking now. We need to possibly pair up with a local tribe or civilisation in the area in order to gain experience about surviving in that habitat. For instance the island villagees of Vanuatu are very friendly and are glad for any outside asistance that they can gain in furthering their development (they see our wester way of life as a goal). GAP year placements are often made to these remote villages in order to teach english, and I from what I can see on Google Images of the terain it's very much like what wa want, Jungle etc. My point is that any village in a location like this would most likely be happy to teach us things in return for aid.

Another thing was my rebuttle to the cannibal thing, not every inch of every jungle is filled with cannibals.

Cheers, D

You both make great points, but i dont know what to answer to it :P
I think you both should do what you think is best for the tribe, you dont need permission to perform your ideas, go ahead and make us proud :D

Predict

Not that I want to be complaining but we have at least 4 or 5 active location boards at the moment, we're not really collating our ideas or moving progressively.

I'd suggest that we resolve them into (or just start another) permanent one, we do have the "finding location a different way" stickies but they're pretty specific. This way we don't lose any good ideas and move forward as one group, as opposed to doing bits of research into climate here and an unrelated biome there. There's always the sub-forum idea or a links thread, although with the links you still get a few popular then they die off. No progress.

It might also help to set out a structure for research outlining order and topics of research. For example (and this is a bit of an extreme example) this would mean we don't waste time discussing say Northern Europe and then decide we definitely want the tropics. If we had decided on tropics first we would have been devoting more time to more relevant research.
Personally it makes sense to decide Climate-Biome-Region/Country, Continent is too broad in terms of climate/terrain/vegetation everything really.

Anyway little bit of a rant there, hope that is helpful. I may be too organised at times ;D.

auroraglacialis

I really like your alternative way of finding locations by habitat. I have decided to set up a WIKI mainly for location finding purposes. It is a lot better than forum posts, as it can be edited and not just added more information at the bottom. I still have to fill in some information and of course I originally set it up for our group, but I see a big benefit in sharing the wiki, so our two clans can profit from the information the other has collected. Do you think this would be a good idea? I sincerely hope that nobody will object to sharing this. Check out this example: http://revolutionists.aurora-glacialis.de/wiki/index.php/Olympic_Peninsula . If our clan and you here agree, I could open the wiki for both groups and we could share location data (and possibly later also habitat data or other information). What do you think?

The wiki could be an excellent way to collect our research and it makes sense to collaborate on these common issues. It could be a good idea to have a wiki (or section of a wiki) for information common to both tribes with tribe specific pages separate, if that makes sense.

So you'd have: Common Research(location, &c.) - LN Tribe - Revolutionists (or whatever you call yourselves) independently.
