Punishments?

Manual labor seems to work in almost any situation. [Or we could just have an inflatable nut house.]
But why would we argue? 'No, I wanted deer?' I think there wouldn't be any big arguments unless we had to go survival of the fittest for some reason.

Labor has been a punishment used throughout human history. Military back in the day-and I wouldn't be surprised if it continued today, though I know nothing about it-were ordered to clean all sorts of things, and even dig latrines (Blech!). Even today, don't parents force you to do chores as a punishment?But the isolation hut should also be implemented in certain situations. There is also the possibility of shunning, but that is a little harsh, and I would personally be afraid to use it ^_^;;

Or we just hit a hand with a meat tenderizer. In the old-style army, if you ignored an order, they considered you crazy and shot you, but we're trying to leave that behind.

Hey, we need to make sure of something. When we are trying to keep order and peace within the Tribe, we are not trying to get vengeance. We are trying to make sure that justice is done. The rules and regulations need to be impartial and fair, and the punishments need to follow that example. When we begin punishing others based on our personal desire for reciprocation of wrongs, it is no longer justice. It is vengeance, an eye for an eye, and we all know what that does to the world (It makes it blind ^_^).

So we will give them extra work, not because we want them to pay for what they've done, but because we want to make sure that they do not do it again.

Justice begets Harmony. If those who are not following the rules and harming others are not taught to stay within the rules of the Tribe, then we don't have that harmony. As good ol' Abraham Lincoln once said, "A House divided cannot stand." I'd say that arguments and offenses not resolved would divide a house quite nicely, don't you?

Your friends friend steals something of yours that is not that big,expensive or important. You can either get justice and have him sent to jail and then you friend would hate you or you could just forgive him and work it out so your friend gets you object back think about it

Sending him to jail for stealing something that trivial would be a really harsh punishment. I would argue that justice would be having the friend apologize. Justice doesn't have to be anything big or impressive. It just has to fulfill it's purpose- to maintain order and harmony. I think that you are not giving Justice it's dues. Your solution is just another form of justice.

Yes, it is very important to discuss EVERY idea we can possibly think of, even slightly crazy ones (like... this project for an instance ). You never know what we may think of or discover.

This does seem to me to be the right way to do things. Now we'd just have to decide what issues go in what category.

I also might suggest that dishonoring the animals or wilderness could easily have multiple levels and most certainly be grounds for banishment. Though seriously, who would ever consider doing this if they didn't love nature?
