tribe.learnnavi.org - a new area for the tribe!
« on: March 14, 2010, 06:52:23 am »
The idea of a new site / separate sub-forum was brought up - a proposed http://tribe.learnnavi.org/ (you won't find anything here. Yet.)

Granted, I don't have a whole lot of time to set up a new site + forum, so I'll rely on you folks to help out. I'll happily offer server- and hosting space for your plans - just someone has to design/program and administrate/moderate/maintain it! (Welcome to my world)

Would you want a separate forum? A forum with a portal page? A separate site with the forum as an add-on? Discuss ideas for a transfer below here, alongside any offers to help out (knowledge of PHP, MySQL, HTML/CSS/JS, background in design, ...)

I have knowledge in SMF completely, administrating and moderating...

Like this one, that already died.

Took a class last year for HTML, taught myself CSS through SMF. Find JS confusing, some PHP knowledge [the time], and that's about it.

What a great, awesome idea Seabass!
I don't know much about programming pages [I know some Java and C and stuff], but of course I will help however I can!
I know that some people on here have some experience ^^

I think a separate forum would make sense, yes?
Or maybe a way to make a main page to post everything that we have decided on, and then a forum attached!

But we don't need it... we already have our own forum, why do we need a whole site? I can kind of see a blog, but we don't need multiple boards.

I think that's a great idea!  I wouldn't be able to do much programming wise but I would love to help with moderating and keeping people in line :D

Hey,

I love the idea of a seperate sub-domain for the tribe. I have quite a bit of experienc with web design and am currently designing pages for NerVe LAN (drupal) in Melbourne and Melbourne Radio Controlled Helicopter Club (Joomla!).

I think maybe a seperate site with a forum, this way in the future when the tribe is setup we can post information on the happenings of life out in the wilderness without setting up a new website.
I think a content management system such as Drupal or Joomla! would be the best way to go, this means that people with little experience with web stuff can add articles and photos without too much hassle.

I would be happy to get the site going and to help design it but regular moderation will be hard for me this year as I am in year 12.

But we don't need it... we already have our own forum, why do we need a whole site? I can kind of see a blog, but we don't need multiple boards.

EDIT: as for why we need a seperate site, well it kind of gets us setup for when we go public and also sets us up as more of a seperate entity that just a board group going mad about Avatar, makes us look like we are actually going somewhere with this. thats my thought anyways

also fo those that noticed it posted my post 5 times for some reason thats why there is lots of editing and deleting going on :P

I stand by the group decision. I don't think we're ready for this. And I believe I was the one who originally brought up the idea of our own site.

I might get berated for this but i think it should be invite only to avoid confusion about goals with others and to avoid trolls. It would be more structured and we would have a better idea of who each person is, maybe have a more detailed profile page with the persons stance on the tribe and other personal details (none mandatory of course).

Please dont shoot down my second idea because of the first, they are separate ideas.

Seeing as the forum idea is failing, maybe it's looking more to be like a blog.

hmmm. for some reason I was under the impression that we were going to have an internet link in the tribe and there would be a website with out goings on posted on there every month or so. Teaches me for being innactive for a week :P

I disagree. I think that the Forum system is legit, but that we need to have a place that is more open, that we can spread things out, and get some actual organization to this. The Forum format makes sure that Everyone has a voice, so that no one gets left out.

Though, a Representative establishment would be a great idea, in my opinion... but that would be much later on ^_^;

I agree that we definitely need a forum, but we don't need a different one than we have now.

At least, that's my view on it. A blog would be like a replacement for the stickies, and it would provide info on other things too.

I could literally set up a blog in about an hour on my site, so if we don't do it here, I'm ready to go whenever. (Not saying that we're actually going to start one anytime soon)

If you do decide to make one in a month, give it to Seabass to let him add it to the main site.
