I'm really glad to see we're starting to get some female members. Early on it was looking like a 20/1 male to female ratio.

Yeap, it'd be awfully awkward to live in a tribe where we have only 2 women and 40 men.

Kaltxí, smuké sí smukan (I hope this is right ^^)

I hesitated to join the forums but after i stumbled over your idea of a real tribe i registered emediately.
so here are the facts about me.

Name [on board]: Nantxe'lan (formerly known as AyesOfAzure)

First name: Mario

Age: Almost 25

Gender: Male

Location: southwestern Germany

Skills: I'm quite a good archer, i have an average knowledge about how to carve bows and to fletch arrows propperly and have some basic survival knowledge.
i have quite sharp senses (hearing, seeing, touch). I tend to become an agony aunt and peacemaker as well as a diplomatist (i'm good at getting people to come to a compromise, but it's hard to come to a compromise with ME, though XD). but the other side of the medal is that i also tend to play the devil's advocate (so prepare for some unpleasant questions about tribe planings ;) ). I'm a musician and play several instruments (although the most won't be available for the tribe, pipe organ for example), I'm able to build some instruments myself and i can sing (atleast i think so :P). I'm some kind of a wannabe McGuyver and enjoy to to improvise, especially when it comes to woodworks. i'm quite creative in many respects.
IMO not relevant but perhaps mentionable: I'm a layman actor, hobby author and something between a "real" and a "would-be" philosopher. perhaps this could be usefull to avoid boredom (establish a theatre group for example).

Jobs I would like: archery instructor, hunter, scout, fisher (if needed), crafter (smaller woodworks, jewlery, fabric & leather sewing/tailoring, musical instruments, or whatever i'm able to do) or simply a teacher (music e.g. or lore & history, if we happen to get this ;D). but i'd love to help where ever i can.
note that these are only suggestions for "full time jobs". i'm also willing to spend my free time for other activites, like the prementioned theatre group.

Additional:
to be honest I'm surprised that there are others who think like me. and i would have never guessed to find some at a "language forum". and i hope that i'm able to help you to make this idea come true.

to shed some more light upon my skills:
i used to practice Kyūdō (traditional japanese archery), and reached the 2nd Kyu (ranks beneath the 1st Dan count upwards, lowest rank is 7th Kyu). i also have some practice with english longbows and modern sports bows. I'm about to craft an Atlatl and will practice with it.
I HAVE some survival skills, what doesn't mean that i could acutally survive in the wild yet. they are merely the basics and are restricted to my LARP experiences. but before you laugh: i used to play in a so called "Ambience group" which resembled a fantasy-style indigenous tribe. and an ambience group means that we act as authentic as possible. besides cooking dishes we had nothing made of metal and we played the role of "natives" 24 hours a day (not only on a Con but also in our free time). and of course we only used authentic equipment.
therefore i know how to make fire with a bowdrill, how to carve a stone into a sharp cutting tool, how to thread and sew leather, how to protect against cold and heat (and insects at the same time) , how to find/build a shelter... merely the basics.

Well i guess i wrote more than enough. i bet this is one of the longest profiles here ;D

oh and btw: i'm a bit out of practice concerning my english, so please excuse me for my mistakes ;)

Welcome ma tsmukan. I encourage you to play the devils advocate as much as you can. The first person to do so scared off half our members and showed those of us who remained the work that needed to be done.

Sounds like you've got a reasonable level of knowledge about survival, certainly a good deal more than me!
Great to have you!

Welcome.  :)

I will say one thing:  Don't feel too worried about bringing up things people don't want to hear.  For the most part, people in the group are very open to opposing views as long as they are expressed in a civilized, intelligent manner.  Sometimes the things we don't want to mention are the things that need to be brought up the most.  My first - or one of my first - post was about my own concerns and things I didn't think were being handled properly.  As long as you're truly trying to help and not trolling, there shouldn't be a problem.  :)

'Itan Atxur

^^^ Exaxtly. We actually had a member who wasn't interested in the tribe at all post here for a while. The member brought up topics we'd either neglected or hadn't thought about and did so in a constructive fashion.

Welcome to the tribe! Nice to see new people turning up all the time.
Check out the various threads, read around, and post away - we need all the help we can get for this project to succeed!

By the way, as an avid Flight of the Conchords fan, I must ask - is it true that there is a fence in New Zealand made entirely out of toothbrushes?

Kaltxì si irayo!

There most certainly is a fence that has toothbrushes on it. :) Not completely made of toothbrushes, and is located in Tepahu. A few years ago, there was a fence in Cadrona (just out of Wanaka) that had a couple of thousand bras on it.

What more can you say but, us Kiwis will make anything into a fence. :)

Heh, good to hear.

On a more serious note, Tiaothi, I couldn't help but notice that one of the tasks you would be suited to is "warrior, protection". Depending on our location, such measures may be necessary (bandits, illegal industrialists, and the like), but a warrior will be for us of minor use. Close combat, for example, would not be useful for hunting and is often only applicable to other human beings (despite my own martial arts training, I would not fancy my chances with a bear  ;)). Your background in structural engineering sounds like it could be of much greater use, and if you are proficient in weaponry (particulary missile and ranged) then another role could be to train new recruits in the use of such devices.

Right now, would you like to help us sort out a final decision on what buildings are going to be used by our tribe? There was a discussion before, but so many people wanted different things that it ran out of steam. There are a few less people around now, so it should not be as much of a problem...

To save you the trouble, here is the "plan" taken from our dry run thread - basically, it's what we will do when we finally get our location and finance sorted.

Assuming location is Geraldo Island, immigration is sorted, etc.

An advance party will go to set up several weeks before we "open for business", and this group will need to consist of the most wilderness-wise members (ACTUAL PROOF OF THIS EXPERTISE MAY BE NEEDED).
This advance group will be responsible for the setup of the tribe infrastructure, and will experiment in terms of land use, building materials, agricultural possibilities, and hunting opportunities. Upon arrival of the rest of the tribe, they will be responsible for training of "new recruits"!

There will be a "command centre" of sorts at the heart of it all - this will be a sturdy, pre-fabricated building which will contain our links to the outside world - satellite phone, etc. This building will be supplied by a variety of sustainable energy sources (solar/wind/even biogas) and as such will contain any items that require a power source to maintain. This would include medical equipment and medication itself. This building could be of enough size to accomodate us should all our other buildings blow away...which brings me onto my next point!

All other buildings will either be hand-built or pre-fabricatedaccording to preference. A system of accomodation should be sorted out beforehand (i.e. whether people would be willing to share houses, or whther everyone wants their own), to determine exact numbers and the preferences of people to pre-fabricated accomodation should the budget allow.

Take a look, and comment if necessary (but in a new thread, not sure if the intros thread is the best place.

Just on a side note as well, I also hold a degree in electronics engineering, and in computer science. Plus I have many years experience as a communications engineer and communications rigger.
