no never ever make a bow out of pine
pine is a soft wood and breaks very very easily

only use pine to practice carving  it for the real deal since a good peice of yew/walnut/birtch/beech/ironwood   are all very expensive

I plan on making mine out of old leaf springs. I'll shape them with a side grinder and mount them to a central handle. Don't know how that will actually work out yet, but that's the plan.

If it wasn't for the meter-thick snow here, I would go out and make a bow right away.
I mean, all I need is a stick, a string and a knife.

i talked to my dad and he described how he made a bow one time and i think he said it was a recurve. what he did was take a yew, had it steamed and bound it on a thing that formed it into a curve like a "C". then he had bent it the opposite way of the C and strung it. is this how i should make my bow? of course he did shaving to shape the limbs and handle and everything else that needed to be done.

We have no really useful trees for bow making. :/

well ive decided that until spring comes and the trees in my area start growing leafs again, im not gonna be able to accurately find a kind of tree that has good bowmaking wood. so until then ill just try to practice on some local trees that seem to be good woods but im not entirely sure.

Guys...I need your help

I have a lot of personal projects...and they're VERY hard to accomplish...I made a bow once, when I was a child (needless to say it was a piece of....garbage) many years later..I decided to make a Katana (actually I found some good tutorials on the internet) but of course this project is only in my dreams, now I decided to make a decent bow again..a truly functional one. I need your help! Don't let me give up this time ( ::) please....?) We could make a remote workshop lol
Then, 4 years from now, when our camp is ready we could use them (ok ok...let me dream)

look for the bowyers bible volumes

or look on te internet for teh backstreet bowyer PDF

there both pretty good but your gonna have to wait a long time if you plan to make it from scratch.

i would advise finding a bowyer near you and just ask him to make a bow for you seeming as he/she will already have the wood. this is what im gonna do cause my attempt at making a bow was a monumental failure ( 3 times trying and each one snapped)

^ just one thought that might or might not apply.

I approached a bowyer in my area about a long bow and he recommended buying an inexpensive bow to get good with and develop my draw. He told me that the 35-40lb draw that I would need now would not make me happy in a year and I would be spending another $300-$500 to get a stronger bow.

Once again, i don't know how experienced with archery everyone is but as a beginner (which I am) that is what I was told. Just my .02

ps. would love to see some of these pieces get made though, handmade ftw

well im gonna invest in one iv had a little experience with bows.

get one now or take a part time apprenticeship and make one yourself but with a professional nearby
