When I get time to be outside during daylight (not much of it at this time of year :'( ) I will see what I can find in the way of possible staves, really need to refresh my tree-recognition skills :-\

branches for making staves are very hard to find

while you might now be able to craft it, a staff for 25 bucks isnt too bad

Finding a suitable stave shouldn't be too hard, trees are in no way scarce around here ;) I am a bit rusty when it comes to identifying species of saplings though... Fully grown trees, not so hard, saplings, especially during winter, is a pain :-\

well i asked my teacher what kinds of trees that are around my area and he said that there are all kinds of oaks around, there are maples, and yews too,but he said a yew was almost like a fern or somethin. also,i think i have a good piece of wood to make a bow. its 3'7",bit more than half an inch thick, has a slight curve to it as if it would already be strung but its not too much of a curve, and its fairly flexible too(this is probobly because its is moist). i dont know what kind of wood it is and do i dry it out or do i start constructing it while it is moist?

Yew trees are quite rare, and are almost exclusivly in England.

Ya don't go looking for yews around here the only grow in Europe
Look for oak or fruit tree wood (apple) elm is good so is hickory and birch

hickory tends to be  more breakable

Txon Taronyu

True but a thick branch will bend quite will so like all woods it has its down sides

well i had just brought it from the forest,i broke it off of a tree so it was not only moist from being alive but it was also being rained on.

how did it break?  down the center or  in half

when it is being drawn with pressure on the centro only it will snap, im currently working on a bow right now  as we speak and  what you want is a total of 3 points of presure  so that it distributes the 75 lbs or more of power

Ikranä mokri

i didnt know yew was almost exclusive to england!! all i know is that is gonna make a damn fine longbow if i get it right
