And lay lodged--though not dead.
I know how the flowers felt."

I've seen lots of discussion about bows but what about bow strings? would we buy pre-made ones or what

also would we all have home made bows?

I'm using my Activist guide and putting together diagrams. Right now I'm working on a banshee bow. It's not the easiest to build but it's simple in design.

Ta'em Swizaw

Buy some hemp fibers, I would rather the bows be completely natural as would letxuma swizaw. But its not up to us. Be sure to check that the weight of your bow can be managed by the natural fibers.

We are trying to keep all of our materials as natural as possible.

I think it would be good if we had somebody in the tribe who could work as a full time bowyer and fletcher (so provide all the bows, repairs etc. that we need)

Well, in the Na'vi way, all things are made by relatives as gifts for the individual, so basically it's like a private-ceremony thing.

Fair play, but that would mean all of us knowing all of the skills which would be quite difficult in the beginning, I was thinking along the lines of each of us sepcialise

We personally think that every member should craft at least one bow and learn basic upkeep for it. However, if somebody builds a bow for another person that is fine, but the person who did not craft their own bow will lack that skill.

On the other hand specialist behavior is discouraged, we want every person to be at least minimally capable of completing most tasks.

I would like to add that if you don't think your bow will be suitable for its purpose do not hesitate to accept help and/or teaching.

:D I'd be delighted if somebody could teach me how to craft my own bow. Equally I'd be happy to teach others to shoot bows and also cooking. It seems to me the only way everybody's going to learn all the skills they need is if we all teach and help each other

After just talking with Ta'em Swizaw on the phone, we have decided to spend the weeks that follow as we wait for the wood to cure, teaching ourselves how to make and fletch ayswizaw by hand with less than satisfactory resources available. i will keep you posted on the process of my ayswizawä creation with pics and perhaps more entertaining video. Perhaps after nìSwizaw creation we will move to the production of acceptable strings for your bow.

kame ngati krr a kameie ngati!

EDIT:

Forgot to say we will be working on some spears and knives tomorrow. Throwing spears, stabbing spears, fishing spears, spear soup, spear gumbo, fried spear, spears and rice, spears on a stick, spear scampi, spear and gravy, spear kabobs. that's about all i can think of for now.

I've fashioned a spear that is now curing next to my bow. We couldn't find anything suitable for arrows today that might have to wait till it's a bit sunnier. Anyways i updated the main post and made it a bit more informative on the process. I'll probably have some pictures of my spear soon. I'll give you a hint at what it looks like right now; A shaved stick with a point. There, now you know nothing special i just removed the bark as i did with the tsko wood and sharpened it making sure to keep it as balanced as possible.
