LOL. I *AM* in Olympia. I am within a short drive of the State Capitol, filled with arrogant politicians...:(

In other words, YES, I live in metro Puget Sound! :-\

Ugh.

I'm sorry. I guess I haven't said that enough. Sorry. I will try better next time.

As a sidenote, I cannot figure out to place a marker on Google Maps in this forum. Maybe that will help us be better organized. Who has figured out how to place the marker and who has done so? These instructions make no sense... :-\

Edit: I'm sorry! I figured it out! My brain has suckiness! :-\
I love to think about random stuff. I hope perhaps you do, too! :D

Well it's a 3-4 hour drive to olympia. But anyone wanted to meet in Seattle sometime that would be cool :)

Yes. I was in Kent yesterday to see Avatar in 3D @ AMC. I could travel again, time permitting.

Here's a little piece of my brain that grew just now:

If there's enough people between Portland and Seattle and we decide to have a mini-con, we should consider Centralia because I know of a really old theater (The FOX Theater) that's just been restored and I think it can be used as a convention space (though I'm not entirely sure on that note).  It would be a cool space to have as it's a really old.  It still has an original advertisement on the backside that says "The Last Word In Talking Picture Entertainment!"

Just a thought

Rolyu

Ooh, fascinating.  An old theater.  That would be fun.  I second that motion that Ting Eywatikite'e will most likely be here around Valentine's day.  I forgot to make reservations for dinner so I don't know If I'll be doing anything... let's get together!

Oh, and you should call up that theater and see what they say about us using the space...

I vote Southier for those of us in Oregon :p

That said, would we have funds to rent a space like that?  Guess it depends on attendance, but it could also be more informal, and thus cheaper (dinner? park?)...

I certainly won't be able to do anything this spur-of-the-moment (such as it is) but I'm interested in seeing how easily this plays out. If people are interested, we could try a mini-con sometime. My preferred location would be the Troutdale McMenamin's, near Portland, but there are other places to consider.

I second, third, AND fourth this motion. I live in Issaquah (20 mins from Seattle), and would be so willing to drive the 4-6 hour drive down to McMenny's for a bite and a chat. Time allowing, of course.

Well, I shot off a message to the "Contact Us" part of the Centralia Fox Theater official website.  I don't know what'll be the answer.  For all I know I could be dead wrong.

Rolyu

Just as long as we're getting the planning process in motion.  :)  And yes, keep coming up with ideas, and try to pick a place that's pretty much in the middle for all of us if we can?

Where is my NDD fix?
some people juggle geese...

ShadowedSin

Centralia is a massive drive for me oo thats a good chunk of change I don't have. We may want to split it up between Oregon and Wash.

As a car-less university student in Seattle, my travel range during the quarter is fairly limited. However, my home town is down in Vancouver, so partaking in a Portland meet-up some time during spring break, March 20-27, would be entirely feasible.

As far as meets in Seattle go, I'm good anytime.

MaTe

If it will be outside of seattle I can take up to 3 people. But I may have plans for spring break( not set in stone yet).

Hmm, well, what's right in the middle between Seattle and southern Oregon people .. hmm .. oh yeah, Portland! ;D Let's have it there! Hehe..

I don't know if I can drive anywhere far unless it's Seattle, because I'd probably have to convince my partner to come (and bring our son). She likes Avatar but she's not into it enough to want to learn Na'vi.

Honestly I'd be happy if just a few of us meet up for coffee or something. Setting up a mini-con at a rented place might be jumping ahead a little.

Oh yeah, awesome shirt, Makto Hufwe :D

suomichris

Yeah, Portland would probably be my preference...

Rolyu

I can do Portland with enough planning ahead.  Us seattlites and probably get a carpool together.

All in favor of Portland say aye!

I'd dare anyone to try their thin-cut flatiron steak in the whiskey reduction sauce and say it's not worth a drive!  ;) I'm drooling just thinking about it.

Crap, now I've contaminated the sample with my saliva.

Woah. If I read the map locations right, there seems to be more Seattle-area people than Portland. I could have sworn it was the other way around, just last week. Or even last Sunday.

Now I don't even remember. But if the Google Map locations of forum members is accurate... maybe Chehalis/Centralia is a better bet.

What is the status on that old Fox Theater at Centralia, Eaite Randjam?  :-\

Not that I'm trying to force anyone's hand. All I'm saying is that "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve is one of my favorite movies. Besides Avatar and the Matrix Trilogy. And Star Wars. And Boiler Room (starring Giovanni Ribisi)...

Yeah, nostalgia... before I was born or even in "recent" movies. What a trip I put my mind through... sorry.  :P

I just received an email regarding the Fox Theater:

QuoteHi Andrew

The Fox Theatre is currently undergoing a major restoration.  It is in pre-restoration condition and is available for use as a fundraising/meeting venue.  The primary mission of the theatre at this time is to raise funds for the restoration of the Fox and to contribute to the fundraising efforts of other organizations.

If you would like to discuss the use of the Fox by your organization please feel free to contact me directly.

Thank you,
Scott

Scott White, President
Historic Fox Theatre Restorations

So it seems that for a contribution to restoration efforts we could have an event in there.
