All?
« on: November 17, 2011, 03:42:40 am »
Well, I do know the plurals of Na'vi: Me+, pxe+ and ay+.
So I wondered: Would "all" or "every" in Na'vi become ayaw?

BTW, would this be the correct way to gloss it?

Ayaw
PLU+one
All/every

Well for 'every' we have the prefix "fra-" which is attached to nouns to mean 'every [noun]'.

I don't think "ayaw" would make sense in Na'vi because the ay+ prefix is a plural prefix for nouns which " 'aw" is not. For 'all' we usually use "nìwotx", an adverb meaning 'all (of), in toto, completely.'

Hope this helps :)

As Txona rolyu said, you use prefix fra- + noun. If you want to say "all", you must be specific:
- all things, everything -> fra'u
- all people, everyone -> frapo
- all action -> frakem
- all time, always -> frakrr
etc.

Sort of following on this thread, do our blue friends have a different word to refer to Eywa as "All-Mother", or is it really just fra-sa'nok?

Kehe. It is "Nawma Sa'nok", meaning "Great Mother." All-Mother is AGAIN, a liberal translation in the subtitles.
Previously Ithisa Kīranem, Uniltìrantokx te Skxawng.

Name from my Sakaš conlang, from Sakasul Ältäbisäl Acarankïp

"First name" is Ačankif, not Eltabiš! In Na'vi, Atsankip.
