Atokirina scene - what does Neytiri say?
« on: March 03, 2010, 01:16:44 pm »
Kaltxì, ma smuktu!

I mean this scene, when lots of Atokirinas are "attacking" (lol ;D) Jake and so Neytiri is astonished by this. When he tries to repel them (as they were some insects) she says something like prohibition I think. Unfortunately I can't find it in dictionary (that's surely cause I write it wrong). I hear there something like that:
Kana! --- Rut e...NO! (This NO is unlike english no which is in fact kinda n-ohh. This NO is with short o (like in a lot word))

So, what exactly does she say there? Lu tìpawm tsakem.

The theory I heard which makes sense is "Ftang nga" which when spoken would be run together into "Ftanga".  I thought it was something like "kana" as well, but there's no way I could make that make sense.

The no is just no, not Na'vi.

The "rut e" part is rutxe, I believe. Seems like a strange thing to say in that context, but it's also used similarly in other weird situations, for example when Tsu'tey takes a swing at Jake for having slept with Neytiri. Makes me think there's some idiomatic meaning to it, probably something along the lines of "cut it out!".

Doesn't seem particularly idiomatic to me...

"Ftang nga!  Rutxe!  Atokirina'..."
Stop!  Please...  Atokirina'

But the way she says it makes it sound more like a command than a request. And "please" isn't really the word to use when you're trying to break up a brawl.

It sounds like a command because it's almost like a polite scolding.  I'm not sure I remember the exact time she says that when they are fighting, but I can see it making sense there as well in some circumstances.  Doesn't she also say "ftang nga" (Or whatever it is) then too?

mhm When I hear it now, it sounds Ftang nga! then she tries to explain something (cause it's much more quiet)Rutxe... But when Jake is to hit other Atokirina' she stops what she was about to say, and shouts No!

Irayo! :D

Now there's only one tìpawm left: What was she about to say?... ;D a lot of possibilities...
