Is there any word in Na'vi that mean (or might work) for cheers? I have been looking around, but I havn't found any.

Swizaw Nguway

You mean, cheers as in, a toast? or cheers as in thank you?
Thank you would be Irayo. But I dont think there is a word or phrase that could be used for a toast.

I mean as in toast, yes. I kinda suspected that it wouldn't be a word for it (yet), but it doesn't hurt to ask :)

Swizaw Nguway

Yeah I'm quite sure there isnt one, you could make a phrase though. Something like for great honor (insert name here) or something.

I think the best way to say something like "Cheers" (and not use "Eywa ngahu" again ;) ) would be to reproduce the slighty longer phrase that exists in most languages:

fpi ngeyä fpom - for the sake of your well-being (sim. to "to your health" or sth)
or even without the "fpi"

it has all the qualities one would need for a toast: short and simple enough to pronounce totally thrashed :D (I guess it could be shortened to just "fpom" after 4, 5 or 10+ drinks ^^)

kìyevame ulte ngeyä fpom ;)

In fact I think it would more probably be shortened to fpi fpom, so as to address everyone at the table implicitly (without worrying about how many there are).

Here's a thought: could we use the even shorter fpomur as "to health/well-being"?

Eight

"Cheers", "your health" etc. have just become standards but the mark of a true gentleman is one who proposes a toast based upon the nature of his companions and circumstances... so say whatever you like. :D

fpi neytiri sì fpom ka eywa'eveng.
for Neytiri and peace across Pandora.

BTW fpom is well-being, peace but interestingly le-fpom (adj. happy, peaceful, joyous) is marked in the dictionary as not suitable for people. Are we sure fpom is ok?

I agree with eight that specific toasts are probably better.

If you feel boring, I'm sure olo'fpi or Eywafpi wouldn't go far wrong
