'uk' shadow

Kaltxì aysmukan si aytsmuke (i think i said that right   ) i've got a quick question on 'uk' meaning shadow. Why do you add it onto the noun that your using  and how? for instance, 'Toruk' meaning last shadow, or 'Uktan' meaning shadow light. Lets say i wanted to say shadow hunter or simply the shadow, how would i do that? and how would you know whether to place 'uk' at the beginning or end of the word? Thank you guys lots   this has been keeping me up at night

I never saw the word *uktan ... where did you get this?

It seems (but I'm not sure) that it follows the English word order pattern:
last Shadow => toruk < tor+uk
clan leader => oloe'eyktan < olo'+eyktan
spirit path => tireafya'o < tirea+fya'o

But I think this has something to do with proper nouns. 'star' which comes from 'little light' is tanhì < atan+hì'i and not *hì'tan or something.

In other instances it's not that predictable, especially which syllables disappear. Personally, I have the feeling that these 'early' words (in the sense of the creation of the language) tend to do this more than the new words that come in/are suggested.

As for your sentence "Kaltxì aysmukan si aytsmuke", let me tell you your mistakes.

It should be "Kaltxì ma aysmukan sì aysmuke".

You use "ma" because as a particle that introduces the vocative. For more information on the use of "ma", check the Na'vi in a Nuthsell guide.

It is "sì" and not "si". "Si" is a 'verb', or a particle we use to create verbs. 

And finally, it is "aysmuke" and not "aytsmuke". The "ay" prefix causes lenition, which means "ts" > "s".

Lets say i wanted to say shadow hunter or simply the shadow, how would i do that?

The shadow is just uk, nothing else needed. For shadow hunter, I'd say ukä taronyu — lit. hunter of shadow.

The word *ukatan doesn't exist...
uk is just shaddow, like any other noun.
toruk is an exception but maybe we can ask Frommer to change tor into tor-, then it would make just perfect sense...

I wouldn't say it's an exception, otherwise txampay and all colour nouns would be too. It's a proper noun—they don't always follow grammatical 'rules', just as in languages mì 'Rrta

It makes the distinction between toruk and tora uk (or uk ator) – "Last Shadow" (i.e., Leonopteryx) and (any) "last shadow" possible

yay!  thanks a lot. my questions have been answered  im pretty sure i understand now. as for uktan, i was searching the forum for any answers to my questions before i asked about it and found http://forum.learnnavi.org/word-submissions/proposed-word-uktan-15852/ It's just a proposed word with a bit of an odd meaning but i thought it worked for an example since it was still able to be put together. Also thank you for correcting my opening sentence there
