Salva te Parkin Salva’itan

Hello everybody!!  :D

Thanks you so much for your answers!! They're awesome, and more or less I understood ...

But Na'vi seems a rather difficult language, but I guess the beginning is always difficult.

Even so, I love this language!!

Now I'm trying to transliterate my name and my surname to create a Na'vi full name, and I'm going crazy!! hahahaha  ;D

For the men: <first name> te <family name> <father's name>'itan. Example: Tsu'tey te Rongloa Ateyo'itan
For the women: <first name> te <family name> <mother's name>'ite. Example: Neytiri te Tskaha Mo'at'ite

And here comes the thrilla... =)

My real name is Salvador, but I always use Salva.

Salvador in Spanish IPA is:   [salβaˈðoɾ]

Long ago, I asked via chat (before signing up), because I had doubt as to whether if "Salvä" was right or "Salva", and I chose the last one.

But now, it is more complicated with my surname...  :)

My surname is Barquín, it sounds like Barkín. It's the same sound in spanish.

But I don't know the IPA, and in Na'vi there is no "B", so I have translitered it as "Parkin", but I suppose I shall have done something wrong... 100% sure.. hahahha Thankfully, my father's name and my name is the same!! =)

I would translitterate it as V since [β] is kind of between B and V.

I think "Parkin" is completely correct. :)

It's not a question of correctness, but of a ''more'' conservative translitteration. It was just a suggestion, but Salva can keep his name as it is.

I may have misunderstood Salva, I thought that the [β] was only in his first name and the "B" in "Barquín" sounded more like the one heard most in English. Ngaru tìyawr latsu. ???

Wait a minute. I searched a bit and both /β/ and /b/ are the possible pronounciations of B. It probably depends on the word and the speaker.

I'm terribly sorry if I'm wrong.

Part of the problem is we often don't know how the Na'vi would say it (and we can't just ask them). So we must guess, but there are so many possibilities. :-\

That's how I would translate it. :) Nìvingkap did you mean to say "Parkin" or "Parkìn" (with the special ì)?

Afaik /ɪ/ doesn't exist in the standard Spanish pronounciation.

I'd say nantang'eveng or 'eveng nantangä (speaking from a human/Na'vi perspective)
Or nantanglini or lini nantangä (taking the approach of a wolf cub)

Or, if you are comfortable with more specific "wolf son/daughter", you can try nantang'itan / nantang'ite. But as Na'vi usually use gender neutral forms, what Plumps proposed is probably better.
