Help with a complex sentence?
« on: June 08, 2021, 08:10:50 pm »
My friend wanted to say:
"My cat woke me up because he was hungry."

This is what I came up with:
Oeyä palukantsyìpil oeti tolìtxen si (not sure about the si, here- using the translation from dict-navi) po oholakx alunta.
Help? Tips??
(This is way beyond any sentences I've built! Studying with and helping her is challenging me to improve!  :D)

I am not sure and I myself would like to know whether it's right sentence at all, but I would say:

Oeyä palulukantsyìp sleykolu futa oe tìtxen soli taluna po 'amefu ohakx.

"My cat woke me up because he was hungry."

Oeyä palukantsyìpil oeti tolìtxen si … po oholakx alunta.

Not quite, since a si-verb is always intransitive, you don’t use the L- and T-ending here. But you can say

oeyä palukantsyìp oeru tìtxen soli …

Second, the forms alunta/taluna (a-lun-ta // ta-lun-a, lit.: from the reason that …) mean the same thing but the a is pointing to the reason that is being talked about.

… taluna po ’olefu ohakx.

ohakx is an adjective, so you can’t insert ‹ol› there, it must come in the verb ‘feel’ ’efu.

If you want to use alunta, the sentence would have to be reversed,

po ’olefu ohakx alunta oeyä palukantsyìp oeru tìtxen soli.

Oeyä palulukantsyìp sleykolu futa oe tìtxen soli taluna po 'amefu ohakx.

Your version works too but with a slight change,

oeyä palukantsyìpìl oeti sleykolu txen …

Literally, this means ‘my cat caused me to become awake …’

Hope that helps :)
