Sentence attempts, rutxe srung
« on: March 20, 2010, 06:10:42 am »
I'm learning the Na'vi language but it's taking me a long time

Oel nerume lena’vi lì’fyati slä oe nekx yola krr

He flew down from the branches like an ikran

Poan tsamwayon ta’em nìayoeg ikran

We should chat sometime

Oeng zene payängkxo

May I please borrow your bow for the afternoon?

Oel ngayä tskoti merunge tengkrr trr heraseysi?

Don't know how to say afternoon so ended up with a messy excuse of a word for finishing.
Corrections and advice please as the first sentence does actually apply to me lol

Sorry I can't help on everything, but one think I noticed is that the verbal complement to zene should take the subjunctive so pängkxo should be in subjunctive: pivängkxo

Oeng zene pivängkxo ye’rìn
We must talk soon

Kaltxì!

For the first sentence i'd rather use "krrnekx" (take/comsume time):
Oel nerume lena'vi-a lì'fyati slä fì'u (oeru) lekrrnekx lu.
I'm learning the na'vi language, but (for me) it's time consuming.

The second... nìayoeng means "like us/as we do", so use "na", or "pxel-" here:
Poan tswamayon tafkip ayvul na ikran/pxel ikran.
He flew from up among the branches like an ikran.

Ma Will!
Since "pängkxo" here is for (near) future, let's use <iyev>/<ìyev> instead of just <iv>:
Oeng zene pìyevängkxo ye'rìn.
We should/must chat soon.

For the last phrase:
the genitive for pronouns is "-eyä" (it's not really, just some kind of rule is here... easyer to say, that it is "-eyä" ;)):
ngeyä
also, i'd use "rutxe" and/or <iv> here too, since it's a request:
Oel ngeyä tskoti mivunge tengkrr trr 'i'a.
i your bow (would) take while day end

... for this kind of sentences i want a word for "for"... :D ;)
"Hrrap rä'ä si olo'ur smuktuä." ; "Ke'u ke lu ngay. Frakemit tung." (Assassin's Creed)

Nikre tsa'usìn!

As for the last sentence, I would say:

’Ewana txon’ongìri ngeyä tskoti oe tsunslu mivunge srak? - afternoon could be 'ewana txon’ong (young evening), I substituted 'for' with -ìri and I think we need srak if we consider it as a yes-no question

or

’Ewana txon’ongìri ngeyä tskoti ngal tivìng oeru rutxe. - where it is a request.

Wouldn't ye'rìn be superfluous here? Seen as soon is already shown in the tense inflection for chat.

We should chat sometime

should is a little iffy, but if you want to use zene (really the best alternative we have right now anyway): Oeng zene pivlltxe krr-o.  No need to worry about soon, <ìyev>, etc.

What do you care about most in this sentence?  That he flew or that he came down?  If the first I would say Po tswamayon nekll ta ayvul na ikran.  If the second I would say Po kllkamä ta ayvul ikrana.

I was going for the second, coming down from the branches. I would have used descended but its not in the dictionary I'm using. Where's it from?
