Personally, I am a bit of a skeptic about the terms in red, for various reasons.

Eltu lefngap: Computer (Frommerian)
Nari lefngap: Camera
Mikyun lefngap: Microphone
Kxa lefngap: Speaker
Not sure what to put for screen...
Spelmokri(yä): Phone (Prrton)
Tsaheytsyokx(ä): Keyboard
Tsaheytsyokx(ä) arusikx: Mouse
Krrtu (lefngap): Clock/Timer/Stopwatch
Tsyänel (Tsänll): Channel (former is Frommerian)
Pìlok: blog
Tìstawm: "Hearing", Audio clip (not really a song)
Tìnìn: "Looking", Video clip
(Sran, Sran, I know that "tì-" can't be used 100% freely, but here I figured it's fairly safe...)

For names of applications etc., use the Na'vi allophonic equivalent (link is in my sig!) unless the name of the application can be translated into Na'vi.  Then you may translate the name if desired.  We do have these exceptions:

Feyspuk: Facebook (Frommerian)
PonguPlltxe: TeamSpeak
Skxaypxe: Skype (Frommerian)

I'd feel more inclined to borrow these words than translate them so I'd get (based on my own pronunciation at normal speed):

kämrì = camera
maykfon = microphone
spikrr = speaker
skin = screen
(telì)fon = (tele)phone
kipotx = keyboard
maws = mouse
kìlok/taymrr/stopwots = clock/timer/stopwatch
pìlok = blog
ortsyoklìp = audio clip
vìtyoklìp = video clip


I'd also go with tuìtrr and yutyup personally although that's probably because I don't really like the idea of translating technological words, if it weren't for the Frommerian eltu lefngap I'd probably advise "kopyutrr" instead.

Maybe this would depend on which is more commonly seen--bird or ikran? To me, it would seem that if an ikran is more commonly seen flying around in the sky it would be ikran lefngap and if a bird is more commonly seen it would be yayo lefngap.

When I came up with pa`li/ikran/toruk lefngap, I was imagining something I could drive/ride. You could theoretically ride a bird (and we have ostrich races here, where people ride ostriches in races. Of course, ostriches do not fly, but it is pretty silly racing!). Of course, a Na`vi would ride an ikran or (rarely) a toruk. Thus, this makes more sense that yayo lefngap. I could see yayo lefngap used to describe an aircraft being seen from the ground (or on an ikran), that has no obvious driver.

As far as toruk lefngap being used to describe a military aircraft, it is not a very accurate definition. There are small and large military aircraft, just as there are small and large non-military aircraft. (I was aboard a C-17 recently, and it sure looked like one of the RDA shuttle craft on the inside.) Thus, toruk lefngap would be used to describe a large aircraft, not necessarily a military aircraft.

And yes, I should have indicated that these terms were thoroughly non Frommerian. I may suggest them to K. Pawl though, and see what he thinks about them.

These are just random things some of us have come up with, primarily for our own use, that could possibly be Na`vi words someday. Hunter-gatherers though, have little use for automobiles or aircraft (at least they have ikrans!), so I doubt we will see many official words for technology anytime soon.

I find it astonishing that they actually have words like TV channel or Skype! It's probably of no use at all for them, but well, for us it's still nice. I personally find the way to create loan words really interesting.

tsyänel arose because K. Pawl was asked to do a 'bumper' in Na`vi going into or out of one of the breaks around his segment on 'Good Morning America'. So, he said the equivalent of 'don't change that channel'. Anytime Pawl uses a word like that, it has a tendency to become 'canon'. (As a television engineer, I am thrilled with this word!)

A few computer terms have arose, because computers are what holds the Na`vi community together at this time. Thus, they are important conversationally. Maybe I need to write a story explaining how thay came to be in the Na`vi world.
