Translations of a few phrases...
« on: March 03, 2011, 01:29:58 pm »
Hey guys, I'm translating a few sentences and I would like your opinion because I don't know whether they're correct or not. (Expecially the ones with 'to be king'.)

A little lion was born.
Palulukantsyìp 'amongokx.

(they) Will teach him to be king.
Kayar poan lu 'eyktan.

But an evil lion wants to be king.
Slä palulukan anawm new lu 'eyktan.

Will he find his true life after hanging out with friends?
Maw käteng eylanhu amip tìrey angay rayun srak?

in the second sentence I would say kayar poan fte layu 'eyktan.
in the third: nawm is great, noble, and evil is kawng. also after new you must put subjunctive.
the sentence should look like this: slä palulukantsyìp akawng new livu 'eyktan.
I think that's it.
Nivume Na'vit, fpivìl nìNa'vi, kivame na Na'vi.....

A little lion was born.
Palulukantsyìp 'amongokx.

It's correct, though I prefer to use -ol- here.

(they) Will teach him to be king.
Kayar poan lu 'eyktan.

I guess it should be Furia lu 'eyktan, fkol poanit kayar.

But an evil lion wants to be king.
Slä palulukan anawm new lu 'eyktan.

Slä palulukan akawng new livu 'eyktan.

I think you meant kawng instead of nawm, because nawm is "great" ;)

Will he find his true life after hanging out with friends?
Maw käteng eylanhu amip tìrey angay rayun srak?

Maw fwa käteng eylanhu amip, tìreyti angay rayun pol srak?

fkol poanit kayar.[/b]

One should keep in mind that kar is not confirmed as transitive.

in the second sentence I would say kayar poan fte layu 'eyktan.

You should mark poanit as patient, because it's the object of the verb kar. Also after fte we always use subjective: fte livu 'eyktan. But I think it this sentence fte would be wrong, because IMO it means that "to be king" is the goal of teaching, but I understand this sentence as "to be king" is a subject of teaching - i.e. "how to be king". Then use topical furia...

fkol poanit kayar.

One should keep in mind that kar is not confirmed as transitive.

Sure.. Otherwise use dative:

  fko poanur kayar

Well, I'm more into <am> when it's infinite, probably from my native tongue...

Yeah, correct, typo, in the Word document it says akawng...

Maw fwa käteng eylanhu amip, tìreyti angay rayun pol srak?

So, a second attempt, with all your corrections:

A little lion was born.
Palulukantsyìp 'amongokx.

(they) Will teach him to be king.
Furia lu 'eyktan, fkol poanit/fko poanur kayar.

But an evil lion wants to be king.
Slä palulukan akawng new livu 'eyktan.

Will he find his true life after hanging out with friends?
Maw fwa käteng eylanhu amip, tìreyti angay rayun pol srak?

(they) Will teach him to be king.
Furia lu 'eyktan, fkol poanit/fko poanur kayar.

Here I think the dative would be better. My 2 cents ;)

It is, actually. From the Christmas Songs:

you teach me that harmony is always sustaining us

 ngal keiar oeru fì’ut
 you teach me this
