Here's my try:
Pesu lu tawtute a'awve, Yuri Kakarin ftxey Rayt Mesmukan?
"ftxey" is "ji" and "fu" is ".a", right? Or is "fu" ".onai"?
Does it make sense to speak of either as (mes/t)awtute a'awve?

Whether Yuri Gagarin or Wright Brothers was/were first skyperson/people?

First, tawtute means human. For the meaning of tompakato, I would use tute a tawmì.

Then, we shorten your sentence, which has too much words for one meaning.

Ftxey Yuri Kakarin ftxey Rayt mesmukan lolu 'awvea (mes/t)ute a tawmì?

Here I mean who was what? The first person in air or the first person in space?

Hmm..in these cause, I would make two seperate sentence:
Ftxey Yuri Kakarin ftxey Rayt mesmukan lolu 'awvea (pxes/t)ute a tawmì? ...in space.
Ftxey Yuri Kakarin ftxey Rayt mesmukan lolu 'awvea (pxes/t)ute a yamì?
...in air.

I can improve my sentence:

Ftxey Yuri Kakarin ftxey Rayt mesmukan lolu 'awvea tute a tswolayon klltxeio.

Whether Yuri Gagarin or Wright brother have been the first person who have flown over the ground.
(Note: I mean ''over the ground'', because Wright brother's Flyer didn't fly in high altitude.)

ftxey = choose, fu = or
Lojban conjunctions. "ji" is "or" when asking which one. ".a" is inclusive or, and ".onai" is exclusive or.

fu I would highly suspect to be xor. (.onai)

Also, what's up with fxey...ftxey.. questions? Do we have any examples of this? I don't think it makes any sense.
