Your worst Na'vi word

Is there a particular Na'vi word which you hate, for any reason? :D

I think I hate the word "fpom" and "lefpom".  >:( It's so un-Na'vi. The initial fp- is so weird, and the ending on -m makes it even more weird. It sounds like a playful singing or baby-talk.

What is disappointing is that it has such a beautiful meaning: well-being, peace, happiness. I wish I could use this word all day, if it wasn't pronounced like "fpom". ::) And sadly, it must be one of the first and most useful words that you should learn, because of the expression: Ngaru lu fpom srak?

Na'vi is full of exotic, beautiful and high-sounding words. Why the word for "well-being" must be pronounced like "fpom"?  :'(

For me it's words where vowel RR follows letter P. I can't say that I would hate it but in any case this combination sounds a bit weird for me...
Many other words with vowel RR are my favourite (lrrtok, nrr, nrra...)

QuoteIt's so un-Na'vi

Not many words could be more Na'vi. fp is a cool cluster imo, one which I have never encountered before Na'vi, and ending with an m? we have so many Na'vi words that do that.

IMO, kxì is by far a more offensive word to me. It's cringy. kaltxì -> kxì??? tx -> kx??? couldn't just be a truncation, or dropping of the unstressed syllable kal... the word kxì bears no resemblance to kaltxì except for containing ì at the end. @_@

Also, lumpe is not very popular because of the n->m nasal assimilation. Even worse than this is the m->ng in leymkem (pronounce m as ng, but still spell with m) or ever stranger, the m->(disappears) pronunciation of txumnga' as txunga' (still spelled as txumnga').

Mech

No problem with words starting with fp-, although I am not a fan of words ending with -m. And I would call my cat "Mister Fpom" or I would shout "fpom!!" jokingly while slapping my pal. I would guess that "a fpom" is some plant of insect of Pandora. But for its meaning, to express wellness or ask someone "how are you", I would prefer some less playful and more exotic-sounding word, like many others in Na'vi :D

Ah, kxì ;D

This. I really don't understand why it was proposed and why some people find it cool. I don't like its form and don't want to use it.

Another word or phrase I don't like is pängkxoyu lekoren. Really has  anyone ever seen lawyer on Pandora? Hard to believe...

Also some tongue twisters or wordplays like ekxtxu, txll'u, kxll etc. are not my favourites, although I can't say I hate them. On the other hand, atxkxe is fine for me.

I agree, especially on ekxtxu.

Any words with RR used to drive me crazy, but after a few different attempts at learning it, and trying several months of practicing RR in the shower, I'm finally getting it!

I can't think of any specific words, probably because my knowledge is super limited, but for me if I see any word longer then like 7 letters my eyes go super wide.  Like I don't even know how to start pronouncing that cohesively.  Like "kefpomtokxnga'"  and then you start adding like pre and suffixes and everything just gets so O.O I can't even...

But oh damn, you give me anything with rr and I'm a happy camper.  I'll roll dem rs all day long! :D krrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr mrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lessgo

And what about "Meoauniaea" ;D (my favourite word ;D )

Mine too. I love vowel combinations, they give Na'vi a polynesian flavor :)

I also like reduplications that are frequent in polynesian and (less frequently) african languages (ahiahi, Kamehameha, rongorongo, pikipiki, polepole, nuanua) but sadly, they are uncommon in Na'vi

Tirea Aean

kxangangang is one of our only documented cases of reduplication. others are letrrtrr, nìtrrtrr, krro krro

Pongu Pongu, the name of a place at Disney Pandora @_@

Tirea Aean

I still think Kxì and Ngaru lu fpom srak are thr worst. the former because it is illogical and weird, and the latter because of its gross massive overuse

Yeah, true :) Next nice word with polynesian flavor is "Leioae"

Hmm ... kxì  sounds really a bit weird.
Any other reasons (phonology, linguistic...) for "Ngaru lu fpom srak?" or it's just for massive overuse?

Tirea Aean

just huge overuse. It has become somewhat cringe-inducing o.o

so many have I seen ehose vocabulary and sentence arsenal consist solely of the following:

{
kaltxì
ngaru lu fpom srak
srane ngaru tut
irayo
}

It is my hope that everyone may start here but ever expand this set by always learning :)

Toliman

Ah, true.
However "irayo" is one of my the most favourite words ;D

txintìn because I can't spell it
