The Nutshell says "zamrr" (§10.2, the "Tip:"), but is this actually verified or has it just been speculated/made up?

I think it would just be a standard case of double-letter-elision. zam.mrr, za.mrr and zam.rr would all be pronounced the same in fluent speech anyway.

Someone on IRC pointed out, though, that if we can have "ayyerik", there's no reason why we can't have "zammrr"...

I disagree with that idea, however, because "ayyerik" is pronounced slightly differently to "ayerik" when I try it (the "y" is a bit more forced in "ayyerik").

You can have ay-yerik because ay and y are two completely different things :P

It's not really the same though. A non-sylllabic ì and a y are very different beasts and the spelling reflects that, both are written, unfortunately with the same syllable.
