What Karyu Pawl got
« on: March 12, 2010, 04:49:15 pm »
I just mailed to Karyu Pawl the PDF containing our 574 A and B priority words.  There are 230 in the C priority, which should swell by about 200 more to get up to that thousand number he mentioned at the start of this project.

I've attached the PDF file that I sent him, so everyone can see what he'll be working with.

I myself am not going to look a this particular sub-forum for a few days, and plan to spend quality time with my banjo.  We still have to get him the C list, but I don't yet know the deadline for that.

Special thanks should go to Lance R. Casey and Na'rìghawnu, who did a lot of the very fussy work in getting people's forum posts onto the wiki (verifying no duplicates, checking against exiting known vocabulary, in the last few days checking against the Master List from Karyu Pawl).

Wow! What can I say? This is quite a piece of work. And the variety of language examples that were used. I saw examples from German, Japanese, Greek, Klingon, Latin, Swedish, Chinese, Hopi and Navajo (plus a couple others I probably missed.) Especially impressive was the section on moods and feelings. The wide range of therms expressed there so beautifully expressed the 'Na`vi condition'. I purposely stayed clear of that area because I am not good at expressing those sorts of things.

And yes, I think Wm. Annis, Lance Casey and Na`rìghawnu deserve a big Irayo for all the work making sense of some of the 'incomprehensible' posts we all created. This is especially true at first, when the workflow was not as well understood as it came to be. However, another group also deserves thanks, and that is everyone who contributed word ideas, even if if was just one word!

I'd like to say "Thank you very much" to Lance and, of course, to Wm.Annis, who shouldered most of the work and did an outstanding job in completing this amazingly well arranged and easy-to-use pdf-document.

And - of course - I'd like to say "Irayo seiyi nìtxan" to all of you, who contributed to the list with your countless suggestions and ideas. It wasn't easy to stay on top of it, but even in the last minutes there arrived really important words and concepts, which for sure will contribute to enhance our possibilities in using the Na'vi language.

And last but not least I'd like to say a special "Thank you" to all people, who brought in concepts and words from so many languages. K. Pawl requested us to look for non-English ideas too, because he doesn't want to modell the Na'vi language too much according to English patterns, but wants to include input from our widespread international community. I personally am very thankful for this too.

I too would like to express my gratitude towards everyone who contributed to this project. There are some fabulous suggestions on the list, and without everyone's efforts this would not have been possible.

Special thanks go to the editors (of course), who did an amazing job of filtering through all suggestions and keeping track of everything. I can only imagine how much work you must have put into this!

As for me, I thoroughly enjoyed the last week, and it is an honour for me to have been able to contribute (a little) to the progress of the Na'vi language. In addition, I learned many things from other languages and cultures, which makes every second spent on here worthwhile.

'Ivong Na'vi!

Let me hand out some (virtual) coffee and cake (or cookies, if you prefer) to celebrate the completion of this important first step.

Someone care to publish the names of those responsible, please? I appreciate how our editors prefer to remain anonymous, but to I don't know to whom to send this fresh batch of karma cookies... yummy! :D
