I checked these against the final A/B list as well as the C words on the wiki.

Body:
an (eye)brow -- not covered by hair in the Na'vi, but still an expressive part of the face
an eyelash
a lock (of hair)
the scalp -- the skin of the head (might not be a separate word)

Flora (Animals):
a pollen
the nectar -- the pa'li eat it
a petal -- Neytiri wore some in her hair
a corolla (ring of petals)
a stem -- part of a plant

Clothing and Grooming:
a bath -- or similar applicable term for the act of washing/cleaning oneself ("Neytiri took a bath in the lake and washed off the dust of the day.")
a necklace -- Neytiri has one
a bracelet
a trophy -- a decorative "success story"
to adorn, to decorate, to ornament -- a person or place e.g. in preparation for a ceremony; Hungarian: (meg)szépít, (fel)díszít ("Hometree was decorated for the great fest." "The warrior's body was adorned with trophies.")
a warpaint (or ceremonial paint)
to paint the body -- if it's different from paint; Hungarian fest vs kifest/i magát
a dye/to dye -- used/to paint the body, hair, or clothes

Possession:
steal -- they may not know private property but one Na'vi can certainly take away another's "share" (e.g how Jake "took" Neytiri from Tsu'tey)

'trophy' and 'necklace' suggest another term:

amulet -  A small object, often worn on a necklace that has some (perceived or real) memorial or
     spiritual significance. This could be a bone, a tooth, a pretty rock, a piece of worked or
     unworked metal, beads, etc. Ex. 'He had an amulet on his necklace made from toruk bone'.

as far as i have seen it only the avatars have eyebrowes
but as a remarkable difference they likely have a name for it
so i think it would be a compund or a loanword.

i would like some more affects (don't know, if anybody already said this, or wants the same as i do)
something like a opposite of <ats>, so something, that says, that the speeker is (more or less completely) sure about what he says.
something, that says, that the speaker isn't really shure, but not like <ats> but more like not positive and not negative.
the last thing isn't maybe really usefull, for some, but it would be quite funny. it is an "good old memorys" affect. so, it says, that the speaker tells something from his memorys.
"Avatar 2 spielt auf der Erde. Die Menschen sind vernünftig geworden, es gibt keinen Krieg, alles ist grün und friedlich. Der Film kommt in 30 Jahren heraus, weil es derzeit keine Technik gibt, das darzustellen" ... - Tirea a Tswayon (aka JC XD )

In the linguistics biz, we call that a "direct evidential."

Taronyuakawng

This is a bit late.. so we post it in the "C" list. Those are words from Polish learnnavi section:

some might be doubled I am sorry for that - I have no time to go through the A and B lists

Names

Rules for creating proper Na'vi names. Are there any? Or does any random set of nìNa'vi characters (that obeys the basic rules, which consonants and vowels can appear where) make a correct Na'vi name?

Names of stars, names of heroes, names of famous clan leaders

It's actually possible to determine what stars would be seen from Pandora's surface. If you could name those (or at least give us an idea how would Na'vi name the stars.. so that the community could run a project to name all major stars visible on Pandora's sky).

Names of heores - famous clan leaders, famous hunters, legends.. just like we have lots and lots of greek heroes. They don't have to be real. As long as they're recognized by Na'vi it's - we have only one example of this - Toruk Macto. More please !:)

Weapons

We've got spear (włócznia) [tukru], bow (łuk) [tsko], club (maczuga, pałka) [txewk] and even crossbow (kusza) [tskalep] from the Avatar game (which could contain illegal words). What about sword (miecz)? Shield (tarcza)? Knive (nóż)? Could you tell us if those weapon names from Avatar game are correct?

More adjectives

We've got hot [som], what about cold?
We've got beauty [tìlor] so beutiful would be le-tìlor [noun->adjective derivational change], what about ugly?

Nice, wonderful, horrible, ill-looking, admirable, disgusting?

Daytime

Taste

słodki {sweet}
gorzki {bitter}
kwaśny, cierpki {sour}
słony {salty}
umami {umami, umame} [Taking its name from Japanese, umami is a pleasant savoury taste]

łagodny {mild}
ostry {don't know how to translate... it's the opposite of mild, if you put lots of chili into your food you're gonna get "ostry"}

Smell

So, if we've got diffrent tastes, why not introduce a few words to describe some common smell? It's actually hard for me to find examples, becouse in Polish we either have "smell of something" (e.g. smell of food) or we have pleasant/unpleasant smell (which in Na'vi we can say by <ei> and <äng> infixes), and we sometimes even use taste adjectives to name a smell (like "smells sweet"). I guess that if we had flower names and taste words.. the problem would be solved becouse we could always say "smell of this flower" etc.

Feelings

Przyjaźn {friendship}
Nienawiść {hate}
Miłość {love} - tìyawn
lubić kogoś {to like.. someone} /for example.. I like you/

So we've got well-being [fpom] and I can't really remember any other feeling words.
What about feeling uneasy, frightened, in love, joy etc?

Are all of them done like this??:

txopu - fear
txopu si - be afraid

Animals, body parts

łapa {paw} (but not a 'hand')
kieł {fang}
grzbiet {back} (but not a human 'back', in polish we use 'grzbiet' as a 'horseback' or any animal-back)
zad {rump, backside} (but not 'bottom' or 'ass'}
stado {herd}
szczenię, cielę, kocię, ... {pup, calf, kitten, ...} (generally.. a young animal)
mięso {meat}
ukryć się {to hide} (for example.. to hide behind something}
skradać się, zakradać, przyczaić się na coś {to sneak, to sneak up on something}
wyglądać {to look... good/bad/...}
uderzyć {to hit}

Polish phrasal verbs and idioms

schodzić na psy [to go down to the viperwolves?] - {to go down to the dogs} - for example a newspaper can "fall" (become a lesser quality newspaper) - we'd say in polish that the newspaper fell down to the dogs
posłać kogoś do wszystkich diabłów [send someone to nìwotx ayvrrtep?] - {send someone to all devils} - generally its a like "go to devil!" or "go to hell!"
rzucać słowa na wiatr - {to throw words on wind} - means saying empty words, breaking your own promises
o wilku mowa [talking about viperwolf?] - {talking about wolf} - when you speak about someone absent, and he suddenly appears, we say "talking about wolf", which means that the "wolf" (the person) we we're just talking about has appeared
chcieć gwiazdkę z nieba - {to desire a star from the sky} - means to desire something unobtainable, to dream
ściemniać - {dim} - literally "to make something darker" (derived from "ciemno" - "dark"), but it means in polish "to lie"
płeć piękna - {beutiful sex} - means women :) we call them "the beutiful sex"
płeć brzydka - {ugly sex} - means men :P we call ourselves "the ugly sex"
zepsuć komuś humor - {to break somoene's humor} - means to destroy someone's mood, to make someone sad, to deliver bad news
igrać z ogniem {to play with fire} - to play with fire.. means to play a dangerous game
w międzyczasie {meanwhile}
umierać ze śmiechu {die from laughing} - means LMFAO (laughing my ass off).. laughing soooo much that our belly hurts :)
stracić twarz {loose face} - to loose your face means to become infamous
stracić rozum {loose mind} - to loose your mind.. means to do something stupid.. we actually don't use it to describe pernament madmans.. we use it to say that someone (who generally is a sane man) is doing something really stupid/crazy
stara gwardia {old guards} - means good old friends, good old crew
sokoli wzrok {falcons eyesight} - expression meaning that somebody has very good eyesight. In Na'vi there must be of course name of other animal (Toruk, Palulukan?).
słowo honoru {word of honour} - it's a ceremonial phrase to say "i promise", means "you've got my word for it"
ranny ptaszek {morning bird} - means someone who gets up early in the morning
mniej więcej {more less} - our version of "more or less", "about"
mieć dwie lewe ręce {to have two left hands} - means to be clumsy (left hand in the world of right-handers is considered to be the worse one.. so 2 left hands mean 2 worse hands.. mean a clumsy man)
dać komuś wolną rękę {to give someone free hand} - means to allow someone to act on his own, for example your chief can "give you a free hand" - allow you to act as you think is right
jednym słowem {in one word} - our version of "long story short ...", used to summarize what we explained.. for example "bla bla bla bla (...) in other words - he was wrong"
dać nogę {to give leg} - means to run away

mieć ileś lat {To have certain age} – polish equivalent of english phrase be a certain age, e.g "I have 20 years"

Spicy! That's what I meant :)

By the way, if you wonder WHY did I put soo many strange requests (like heroes, stars, flowers, etc) - I personally believe that this language will become "complete" once it's developed enough to write poems. And for poems things like taste, flower names, hero names, stars, and many many other things are really importaint:)

I think that terms for specific heros, villians, etc. are going to have to wait until JC tells us more (or opens the gates to the fan community to write a Na`vi history-- some of us are doing this now for Narina (although not completely officially)). Even Toruk Makto is not really a name (although a lot of us use descriptive names like this for our Na`vi names), but rather a description of four (now five) individuals who have managed to connect with, and ride a Leonoptrex. That said, generic terms for things like 'hero', 'villian', etc. are needed (and possibly already suggested).

Nice list, thank you ... but your
QuoteI have no time to go through the A and B lists
does imply that others - the editors? - have got this time. Errr...
Although there is no deadline for the C-list, they for sure don't want to shoulder the work to go through lists, when even the people who suggested it, aren't in the mood to remove doublettes themselves. The "wikization" of the suggestions is quite time-consuming, even if there are just new words, and to have to check everything before doing so isn't really a pleasure. No offense, just a fact. Since we for sure will wait some time before we put the words into the wiki ... how about checking the list in the next days or so?

QuoteI personally believe that this language will become "complete" once it's developed enough to write poems.
I completely agree with you.

Do you mean "villain"? "Hero" isn't just suggested, it's already existing on Frommer's list: http://wiki.learnnavi.org/index.php?title=L_E_P/Frommerian

Unilfwewyu

I know we have most of the siblings and family members in our current vocabulary, but I would like to know the following words :

Grandfather
Grandmother
Uncle
Aunt

Honestly, I would put all their different meanings, but I believe that they are pretty straightforward.

Irayo in advance,

Unilfwewyu

I live in a world where dreams are controlled by others, not by yourself. I live in a world where people choose what you become, and you have no choice whatsoever. This will change. My dreams will become reality. And that, my friends, is a promise.

`Eylan Ayfalulukanä

I was thinking about the experience of flying an Ikran or a Toruk. Flight, whether it be in an aircraft, or atop (and at the 'controls' of) a living thing involves some special terminology.

First of all, there is getting on your Ikran and initiating tsaheylu. There is a special term for making the bond, tsaheyl si. But when you get off your Ikran after the flight, there is no term for breaking the bond, or disconnecting, as it were. Example: "He dismounted his Ikran and <broke tsaheylu>". Four that matter, there is no term on any list for 'mount' or 'dismount'. I used 'dismount' in the previous sentence. An example of 'mount' would be "He mounted his Ikran and made the bond". These terms would also apply to riding an animal, like a Pali.

There is a term suggested for 'land' in the LEP A/B list that could also serve for land  as in "I landed my Ikran". But there is no term for 'takeoff'. Examples: "He adjusted his position on the Ikran's back in praparation for takeoff" "He took off from the highest branch in the tree".

There is a word for straight, yey, and a request for the word 'level'. But do we need a specific term for 'straight and level flight' or perhaps 'cruise'. Example "After clearing the cliffs, Jake and his Ikran achieved straight and level flight".

Another unique flight activity, especially for animals is soaring. This is unpowered flight, using thermal updrafts to provide lift. Most Terran raptors soar, and I would not expect anything different for Pandoran raptors (which both Ikran and Toruk are), as it is an energy-efficient way to hunt. Example: "The Ikrans soared overhead in the warm afternoon sunshine".

One rather technical flight term, but important to Na`vi fllying, is to 'stall'. A stall occurs when an aircraft slows to the point where it no longer generates lift. This can also happen if the wind is right, and it can cause a fixed-wing aircraft to appear to hover. In most cases, stalling is undesirable, as you fall out of the sky. But as an aerobatic manuever or in a dogfight (or a hunt), it can be a very effective manuver for evading an enemy, or beginning a dive. (Ever see a 'hammerhead stall' in an airshow?) In the film, you Jake and Neytiri briefly stall their Ikrans at the end of a dive. You then hear the Ikran's wings fill with air in a 'thwap', and they are flying again. A stall would be a common and nautral manuever for a flying creature, as they are far more manoeuvrable than any aircraft. Example: "Neytiri narrowly avoided Toruk's claws by pulling her Ikran into a stall".

Yawey ngahu!
pamrel si ro [email protected]

tsrräfkxätu

These are all very good! :D Maybe hover (fluttering midair standstill) could be added too. I'm not sure an ikran would be capable of performing it over a longer period of time (in the movie when Neytiri's Seze lands on Hometree she hovers for a few seconds), but it is certainly a favorite maneuver of Earth raptors.

i have come across these:
  • stroke of wing(n)/to beat one's wings(v)
  • flying while using 2 wings for propulsion
  • flying while using 4 wings for propulsion
    like there are different terms for riding such as galoping and troting

It might be a bit of a strech but, would it be possible to have a word for,
election [noun]
to elect [verb]

This might also fall under the 20 questions for Cameron. Do the Na'vi hold any kind of elections? Or perhaps it is more general like, "decisions made by the people" or by popular vote. Could this simple be a compound word like join "  'awstengyem  " simply meaning "put together."

Thoughts?

It occurred to me today that I could not recall seeing a word for 'work surface', something we might commonly call a 'table'. But for Na`vi purposes, it could be any flat surface where one performs a task. Although there might be special 'work surfaces' such as a place where food is prepared, etc., here I am just suggesting a generic term.

So here goes:  'horizontal work surface' Example: "He built arrows on his 'horizomtal worksurface' ".

But there's more! In researching lists to see if this term had been suggested, I discovered that a couple really common words are missing: Horizontal and vertical. The definitions of these terms is pretty obvious (at least as adjectives), so I won't bother with example sentences. Another related word I could not find was 'flat'. Example: "The plains clan's land is quite flat".
