The pics are probably still there somewhere, but sql has lost them.

FWIW, the avatar... thing probably represents a serious bug in SMF, since my lack-of-avatar was causing "Waiting for..." loops and timeouts.

(Or was that just general instability?  :P )

It could be worse. Last night, my internet service at home failed (DSL). Then, I found out that the bill for my ISP was never properly paid, and they are sending me past due notices for an account that should not be past due. But they couldn't get the bill paid because their servers were down (which was also causing the internet service outage). Then, I discovered my landline telephone service was out. What is really strange is that all three of these problems are separate, unrelated issues!

Oh, and last Friday, a problem with our archive system at work wiped out a month of my work. Then yesterday, I had two brand new hard drives fail within a few hours of each other.

While I was typing this, the telephone company called. They found an one-side-open pair in the trunk cable between the central office, and a interconnection pedestal that is close to my home. The technician is at a loss to explain why it was open.  (The unusually high winds here beat the telephone trunk cables to pieces, so that is the likely cause). But at least, phone service is restored. One down, two to go.

Well, in the interest of being all wishy-washy  :o ;) :D, I got an email from CloudFlare that the bugs I had been on about have apparently been addressed.  I am going to turn it back on and see what happens...

The Dothraki website doesn't load at all now from my bookmarked link (which calls index.php). From the front page of the Dothraki (Wordpress) site, I get Cloudflare error 522 with Ray ID: ef2322fda95012a (Link does not call index.php) The wiki also loads fine, and so does Eana Eltu.

I am still not seeing any of these problems. It is hard to troubleshoot when I can't recreate the issues...  Still looking, though.

EDIT: Obviously the problems have not been fixed over at CloudFlare, so off they go again. For good this time.

Interesting. I tried reloading the Dothraki forum page from the failed cloudflare page and got the same error. I then closed the browser window, and reloaded from a bookmark. Now, things loaded properly. Iraly nìtxan! but sorry about Cloudflare.

Maybe LearnNavi will get so popular, we will just buy Cloudflare to get us enough bandwidth, and fix the problems ourselves :)

Um, as far as I understood this concept of CloudFlare, is has not much to do with the bandwidth. The server has 1Gbit/s and CloudFlare just (should) do an effective data destribution.

The previous colocation gave the server only 500Mbit/s, if I remember me correct.

Close... They cached information from our server at their data centers around the world for local distribution. They would come to our server for info not in the cache. The problem is that their way of asymmetrically requesting content was blowing the session manager on our server somehow and the HTTP GET would time out half way through, causing the errors we were getting. We have an unlimited GigE to the server (had a metered 100Mb at VirtBiz) and a bunch of processor capability, so I think we will be ok on our own.
