This is a really good way of being able to listen and speak to Na'vi, and it much more understandable than Skype with different rooms, chat without lag and so on :)

While I appreciate the work you put into this, I cannot use it. Team Speak does NOT use the Speex codec that is required for Macs.  So there is kind of an issue there.  We are going to get an official Ventrilo server when have have the chance because Vent can use Speex.

I have users who are using Macs connected right now, and they are not having any problems.

Again, this is TeamSpeak 3, not 2, so there are quite a few updates.  Just make sure you download the correct .exe file for your operation system at the teamspeak website.

Just knitpicking, Macs use .dmg, not .exe. :P

Anyhow, how many man server is it and just curious, why go with TeamSpeak over Ventrilo?  Teamspeak, even when using a Windows machine was bad.

Well, its TeamSpeak 3, so its a completely new build of TeamSpeak.  Most of the problems in the past have been fixed.

As for how many people the server could handle, the software will handle 512 people.  The internet connection should be able to handle around 300 people, give or take.  Everything goes through the server instead of directly to each individual client, which reduces bandwidth on the client end, but takes more on the server end.

As for why TeamSpeak over Ventrilo, TeamSpeak is free to host the server, Ventrilo costs money per month/year to host a server.  I wanted to get a solution for the community online, since Skype was starting to fail us, and IRC only allows text chat.  TeamSpeak allows both text and voice chat at the same time.  Infact, people will do both at the same time during a conversation.

I will post a pic of the new client software soon.  It still has the teamspeak 2 look, but its been updated with new features.

I would recommend anyone who wanted to give it a try to download the client and connect.  I can sit here all day, trying to convince you to use it, but it would probably be easier for you to download and install the client and connect.  If you don't like it, you can uninstall the software.

When I was at home I could host 20 people before it started losing quality on Skype :P  We just planned the Vent server for a while off since we don't have many people who actually do talk.  And at least when I was hosting, there were never any issues and so Vent just kept getting pushed further and further back.  Depending what happens here soon, Vent might come sooner than I thought. O_o

Yeah the best I did was a 25man vent. Yeah using a WoW vent wasn't a good idea.

Well, right now mine could handle somewhere between 20-30 people before loosing voice quality (its on a residential connection ATM), but in about 3 days, it will be able to handle between 200-300 people as it will be on a commercial internet connection (100mbps download with 70mbps upload).

Impressive.  Where did you find a free connection like that?  (or are you paying for it?)

Pretty sure the connection he is talking about is a University Residences (dorm) internet connection.

Yeah.  Im talking a dorm connection.

I have never seen it drop below 5mbps upload (which is what we have to worry about) and 15 download.  Plus, the server that I am hosting it on used to be a university server, so it gets priority over other systems.

You need to switch to the active room tab, by default you see the server console tab instead of the tab for the room you are currently sitting in.

Ok.  The server is now on Stouts network, which is where it should get the best speed and connection possible.  However, since it is a university network with over 5000 other network devices, there may be times when it doesn't work as expected.

Right now, stout is paying for a 1.3Gbps download with about 800mbps upload internet connection.  So, the server should always have plenty of bandwidth.

What the biggest problem will be is the network going down at random times for random reasons.  Usually, this happens less than once a month, and since there are so many people relying on the internet here, its usually back up in under 30 minutes.

I felt that everyone should know this.  If the server does not work for whatever reason, let me know as soon as possible so I can find a solution to the problem.

Ya.  The ping should also drop.  Already, I have noticed on average a 50-100ms drop in everyones ping.  Makes conversations seem more fluid.

Just a question, I live in australia so we have a capped download limit of 10gb :( how much data does teamspeak use?
This is not a signature... It is also not a blatant lie.

Not very much at all.  I have been connected for about an hour now, and I have only used 6mb.

However, it does depend on how active the server is.  If you want, once you connect, I can show you a way to keep an eye on how much you are using.
