Is the forum experiencing server problems?

Today I keep getting this error message:



Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
Apache Server at forum.learnnavi.org Port 80

Due to the success of the site, we are getting a LOT of traffic. The load is bumping along right at the limit of what the current server can handle, and when the maximum load value is exceeded, you will get the 503 capacity message.  Seabass is working on getting some more capable hardware in place to run LearnNavi.org, so just hang in there. When you get that error, usually a 'refresh' will bring the page right up.

Wow well its a double edged sword

1. These server unavailable messages etc. are constant reminders of how big we have become

2. They are also constant pains in the ass

but i can live with it :-)

Ye traffic here is massive.

Happens to me too sometimes, just press refresh and its all set.

Generally it starts when there's ~180 people on at the same time.

Which in itself is two achievements

we don't fully crash with that many people

and we actually have that many people online at the same time!

Hopefully soon we will have a more stable server. For now, we will just have to handle the semi-bothersome refreshing.

Yeah its not really that bad, and it seems to be getting better. Good to hear some good news for the future :-P

Just before the second film comes out might it be an idea to get on an even higher traffic server to try and prevent another slashdotting?

Good idea, but hopefully by that time we will be on a big enough server that its not an issue. As it it were skimming the top of server threshold As you can tell by the 503's that occasionally pop up.
