Some pics of the new server. Not the best photography, but I was kind of in a hurry...  :)

You can see the socket for another Opteron 4234 processor and another 16GB of memory for when the next film comes out and we start getting real busy again.

Yay we're back ;D ;D such a sad story with the old one, but I'm glad things are working again. Thanks for everything you do for us ma Markì. You'll have my donation as soon as I know how much I need to get through the summer.

Some of my PMs seem to be lost too. I have no idea what I wrote back then...

The Wiki sites for LearnNavi and Dothraki are not happy yet. Looks like some database problem there. Someone that is much better at Wiki configuration will need to take a look.

I guess the first question is, within the mysql command, what is the output of 'show databases;'?

Toruk Makto

Please disregard the wiki issue. I figured it out.

Well, like I mentioned, we had to rewind a bit since the last backup was several days before the crash. Hopefully nothing critical was lost.

A moderately significant update to the Dothraki dictionary was lost. I am hoping to be able to reconstruct it from my notes (plus I have a local copy of the updated dictionaries)(Oh, am i glad I didn't toss out those notes!). But there are likely a couple small items that will get missed. But at least, Eana Eltu is working and that is what I need the most. What I do want to do though, is find out how to download EE's database so I can maintain a backup copy from now on.

I also have a Python script which I use to download all the Corpus, Canon and Vocabulary pages from the wiki pages from LN.org once a week.  I've had that for quite a while, just because, as a Unix Sysadmin, data paranoia is a big motivator for me.

A scrape of the Wiki is easy, and something I'd recommend at least one known person do regularly (just not daily, which is a bit absurd).

I have also added a 2TB NAS that is NFS mounted on a private GE network connection directly to the server for backups. Since the RAID is now RAID1, we effectively have triple redundancy. And since all of the hardware is brand new, it has a lot of MTBF to go.

`Eylan Ayfalulukanä: I was hoping we wouldn't have anything like that, darn it.  The full dump backups are going to run once a week now, so if you can keep your source material for at least that long to be able to recreate stuff, we should be ok.

Many thanks for this great job and I hope this new server has good anti-RDA shield :) It was long time without connection to Pandora; I hope I didn't forget too much of my Na'vi knowledge.....

I echo Blue Elf and reassure him that I will keep him busy refreshing his awesome skills with our beautiful Na'vi language.  ;D
